UNBC’s Stress Busters may
be helpful for those of you going
through mid-semester stress-feuled
nervous breakdowns. Throw away
those negative coping devices, such
as alcohol, drugs, Gary Busey, and
take on the world of Stress Busters.

“Stress Busters are designed to
provide a stress free environment
with activities... Generally towards
more artistic activities,’ Stress
Busters facilitator Samantha Backer
said.

These activities include such re-
laxing activities as the Valentines
cards constructed around Valentines
Day, or consist of games or any kind
of sit down that helps students calm
down and relax in a non-drunkenly
unconscious state.

Stress Busters is an offshoot of the
First Nations arid Wellness centers
on Campus, and get together every
couple of weeks by the Doug Lit-
tle Lounge in the Wintergarden to
help clean students of the negative
stressed-out vibes. Anyone interest-
ed in participating is encouraged to
take part in their various activities.

They are always recruiting new
volunteers, so if you’re interested
in combatting the evils of stress,
it’s best you get involved. They cur-
tently have around nine or 10 vol-
unteers.

Some  stress-busting activities
Stress Busters, and our lovely
friends on the internet suggest, in-
clude

-Deep-breathing

-Exercise regularly

-Find a hobby

-Seek out others with similar
issues

-Consider a support group or pro-
fessional help

-Allow plenty of time to do things.
Being too busy is a big source of
stress.

-Discuss your problems with
others.

-Take a time out. A few minutes:

In the great words of Trooper: a very good
friend of mine, told me something the other day,
and I'd like to pass it on to you because I believe
what he said to be true. My very good friend Dan
Paiero is putting together a UNBC Mural in or-
der to, in his words, “impress a girl, but more
importantly to give UNBC something more,
something easily identifiable as student-based
and student-centered. I’m looking for the mural
to represent us, our shared life, ideas and overall
unity, to show the special quality that we have
here at UNBC, the thing that makes UNBC kick
ass.” However, despite considerable student buzz
and even a Facebook page devoted to the poten-

explains: “As of now, we’ve been getting a lot
of great ideas, suggestions and dialogues with
people, but what we need is more submissions,
seriously we have two finished ideas, I know
as a fact that there is some wickedly awesome
creative geniuses here at UNBC. I’ve got classes
with some of the most cleverest kids that ever
lived, and it doesn’t matter how well or horrible
you think you can draw, it’s the idea we’re run-
ning with, the overall piece, not the cleanliness of
the lines or the pretentious ‘subject beauty’ of the
thing, if it’s cool, then it’s worth it.”

Therefore any artists or anyone with any kind
of vision, any students who want to give an
image to life here at UNBC need to get involved
with this innovative creation, and you have time

the Friday after that, the planning committee’s
got a meeting to decide on the final submission,
so there’s still time, and if anyone reads this
and feels that special tingly feeling, well go to
the bathroom, and then send you’re mural idea,
drawing or whatever to me at paiero@unbc.ca or
hop on the Facebook group and pop it up there.”
The Facebook group page is titled UNBC Mural
Project.

The Final Submission will be chosen Friday
March 7th 2008, at 8 o’clock. This is an incred-
ibly unique opportunity for students to get in-
volved with UNBC and contribute to campus life
in a creative and fun way, so I encourage all of
you to get in touch with Dan, he’s an incredibly
approachable guy, in order to be a part of what
will, undoubtedly, be a bigger piece of UNBC
history than even the legendary Andrew Bailey.
