By Jeremy Fung This terms intramural sports have been a great success. There were 7 volleyball teams and 32 floor hockey teams. The facilities in the Conference and Fitness Center were stressed to the maximum, and scheduling 39 teams into half a gym was a major problem. According to Loralyn, these problems show that interest in these sports is high, however, more participation by the females is being actively sought after. Expect to see much more marketing next year, as the fitness center tries to accomplish this, Loralyn did all the refereeing for every game, this involved being in the gym from four to ten everyday. As the only person responsible for intramural sports, she was hard pressed to accomplish all her other duties. Next season the fitness center will be looking for students to volunteer for PIT PAGE — Intramural Scene Playoffs will begin on March 24. ending April 10. The playoff schedules are posted and anyone is welcome to watch if they want to. St. Paddy’s Day Event The 3rd annual St. Paddy’s Day Challenge was a success. The winning team was “Green Runnings”. Their team was composed of Jeff Whetter, Dave Torrie, Rob Boucier, Ave Ciarello, Jayme Buckmaster, Ben Hynnenin, Natalie Hynnenin, and Jesse. A special thanks goes to Mike Lau and Cindy Hill who volunteered their time to help out with the event. For those of you who refereeing, hopefully this will allow the other staff to concentrate on improving the other aspects of the games. Men from the intramural floor hockey have been requesting three on three, instead of the two on two format that now exists. This is, unfortunately, impossible due to the risk factor involved. The view of the fitness center on this matter is that the less factors of risk involved in the intramural games the better. When the new fitness center is finally completed (don’t get too excited, ETA 5 years). Then five on five will be quite possible. Until then we are faced with this two on two format. Intramural Hockey The regular season of intramural hockey is now over. After a rough yet exciting season 16 teams from the were not there to see the event, come and check out the pictures located opposite the squash courts on the bulletin board. Upcoming Events Keep a look out for the upcoming 2nd annual hockey shootout. This event is open to anyone and all you have to do is score goals. There will be prizes for the most goals scored out of 10 attempts, and there will also be a prize for the best goalie. For more information, come to the PIT and talk to Loralyn. Volunteers We are always looking for men’s competetive league have begun the playoff battle. In this first round Rumpnissar defeated team 19, they now face the Legends Of Hockey who beat The Pylons. The Canadian “EH” team will face Pooooo-Nanny’s, the winner of this match will face Team 22 who beat Soarin’ Sativas. The Confederates face the Wailers and the winner of that match will be up against Bill The Cat who beat Flemming Alumni + 1. The Dominators were defeated by Team 5 who go on to face either Greed or Goon Squad. Rumpnissar is the favored team to win this year as they were 6-0 in the regular .season, however, Canadian “Eh” Team, Confederates and Greed are also strong contenders as they only lost one game each during the regular season. Expect an exciting final. volunteers for our special events, s6 if you have some spare time and are looking for a resume builder, come and talk to us and we would be happy to let you help us. | Volunteering does not have to be a bore, come to the Athletic and Recreation Centre and do something fun.
