HON. T. D. PATTULLO Prime Minister of British Columbia Born in Woodstock, Ontario, in 1873, Thomas Dufferin Pattullo remained only long enough to be educated at the high school, before embarking on a journalistic career. He was an editor before he was 21, and four years later left the East for the Yukon, as Secretary to the Commis- sioner for the Yukon. Liked the West so well, decided to remain, coming down from the gold fields in 1908. Settled in Prince Rupert, entered civic politics, and became, in succession, Alder- man and Mayor of that city. First elected to Legislature in 1916 for Prince Rupert, and has never been out of the Provincial House since. Speed and tenacity rank foremost amongst his virtues. He visualized a giant span across the Fraser River, lived and worked to see the magnificent structure at New West- minster built, and named after him. Appointed Prime Minister of British Columbia in Nov- ember, 1933. THE SHOULDER STRAP
