My trip to Rome was for the pur- pose of attending the interna- . tional meeting of my religious order, the Oblate Missionaries of Mary Immaculate. We were with 45 representatives from six different regions of the worlds Canada, U.S.A., South America, Europe, Africa and Asia, comprising 6,000 Oblates . 16:00° in Canada, ) Philips Travel Bureau, whom you all know, provided me with a ticket via Vancouver, Winnipeg, Amsterdam by our ever-present CP Air and the by KIM to Rome on March 26-27, In Vancouver and Winnipeg, two fellow Oblates joined me. Three is no doubt, pleasant company ~- for a trip. No sooner had we landed in Rome and the stark reality of the Moro kidnapping was evident, Police VW vans and soldiers with machine guns were quite visible, The weather was sunny and warm but it was a late spring, the leaves were not even out. It must have been the only warm day I had in four weeks, Life in Rome seemed to go on as usual, During the week we had no time to. go out and visit, and our residence was at the outskirts on via Aurelia, All of these convents, hotels, seminaries, colleges are so afraid of burglars and thieves that they have a self-imposed curfew with alarm-system on at 11:00 p.m. Many have been robbed of tape-recorders, T.V.°s, Hi-Fi systems, cars in the garage, chalices or precious books and manuscrupts,. During the first week of road- blocks around the city of Rome, the police discovered about 140 stoien cars on the road, Of course, we must keep in mind that Rome has a population of three million people, and I wonder if other cities that Size are any better. Another thing that struck me after a few days was: the child- I never saw any walking alone on the streets, Ina wing of the college where we stayed, the Sisters kept a Kin- dergarden and an Elementary school. I never saw any of these children How walk to school, their parents - | brought them by car or they arrived in small vans. Apparently the fear of kidnapping is always present in the heart of parents, not only for the rich and wealthy but also for the helpless lower income families’ whose children could be sold to phoney adoption agencies all over the world, Such cases are not reported in the papers, they don’t make head- lines, From the few ordinary Romans I could talk to, I felt that they were worried about their country, that the Moro case woke them Up, that things are getting serious, They had become used to small riots, uprisings, demonstrations which they brushed off as a form of letting off steam by young extremists. Now they feel that acu es time to be concerned, to organize counter-demonstrations PRCT TU 2 ae for peace and democracy, for political representation and citizenship. Of course, one can still visit old Rome as a tourist, enjoy all its beauty and Italian culture without being bothered by any of the current issues and the worries, of the people, What I won’t forget is a ride in a car driven by a 21 yr. old Roman called Pino, right through the heart of Rome, pased all the great monuments, -Victor Emmanuel, Capitol, Colosseum - at peak traffic time, varying from high speed to a snail's pace surrounded by cars going in all directions, while keeping a discussion going with his dad in the back seat. I said to myself, "You better enjoy this, it*s the dream of a lifetime.” Do you want to hear something about the churches? Well, the three masses I attended on different Sundays for the people of the area, without tourists, were full of young people. Young families and couples, lots of teenagers and pre-teens and a few middle aged and older people, Perhaps it was a dis- trict with younger families, Everybody joined in the singing; it was beautiful. They will do much to put themselves in lime-light as they ‘detest being part of an audience and dig the attention they achieve when actively involved. People who trust the Geminian to know what he or she is doing tend to give them a feeling of pride, and gemini is a soft touch for anyone who returns their quick and ready smile, It's a downer for Geminians when they feel pulled in all directions at once, not knowing how to cope with the situation. Anyone who bluntly insults a Gemini through statements such as "More talk than action took place" or "Their multi-faceted personality is a sure sign of schizophrenia" also annoys them. They do their best work in bits and pieces, but suffer strongly from having their fingers in too many pies. They constantly\ have three or>four appointments at the same time, not one Most Productive Hours: “10 am to 12 noon,of them being compatible with the Gemini people are intelligent, inquisitive and involved in literally everything. They do too much of everything, especially talking and are sometimes secretly worried they are prime candidates for a severe case of laryngitis and nervous break- downs. Yoga breathing exercises may ‘help them to relax and to concentrate on a calm centre between their dual personalities. Geminians are instinctively attracted to anything and everything that requires running around. Their curio- sity makes them an adventurous (even if somewhat of an intellectual) lover, (Who couldn't love someone who would want to get to know a different part of their partner's anatomy every time ° that there was an encounter?) is physical restlessness; the urge to get out and see what's happening, end- ing up at the same places four or five a day while thinking out a particular problem can be destructive. Forcing themselves to keep up with the hectic pace they set in their mind is their most basic error in judgement. They are alert, experimental, sug- gestible and inconsistent. They are able to see both sides of any given issue. Geminians are knowledgeable, glib and voluble. They have the ab- ility to astound friends and lovers alike by being able to speak engagingly on any subject. They are ruled by a quick line and a ready piggle, and are masters at double-talk. -Geminians love intricacies; the more complicated the problem, they more they want to con- quor it. Politics, gossip, and tech- nical jargon are all areas that turn the Gemini on. . The Geminian tends to be appalled at inapropriate use of adjectives, rotten grammar, and individuals who are incapable of doing more than two things at one time. They think in shorthand and are surprised to find that others don't. Also destined to provoke the Geminian animosity are deliberate lies and a person's in- ability to laugh at minor disasters. Their favorite fantasies combine power and communication. They are a brilliance of contra-. dictory forces, constantly restless, constantly curious, they think before Gemini needs a continuous input of mind-games to keep their interests active, but all in all they are more sensitive than they let on-- bravado on the outside, but a cream- puff on the inside. The Gemini individual tends to col- _ lect experiences rather than items because of their desire to participate other. Concentrating on any project for more than two hours makes a Gemini feel that they're being fitted for a cement suit. The Gemini is destined for success in any communications field from public relations director for the telephone company to Editor for a beauty magazine. The Geminian loves clothes, a good restaurant, and travel. They tend to be credit card junkies and would do well to. avoid plastic money of this sort all together. As far as travel is concerned, the Gemini tends to have an uncanny ability to Start last and arrive at a destination first. They always seem to know where they're going and exactlv how to get there. The Gemini individual indicates © _affection toward an Aries individual: The Gemini revels in the Aries' dynamic attitude towards life, but secretly thinks that they are the brains behind the relationship. Aries tends to be magnetic, capable, confident, warm and a super- friend, boss or lover. The Gemini admires the Arian's ability toward quick decisions. The Arian tends to be spellbound by the Geminian's sense of humour (providing it isn't taken to the point of poking holes in his or her ego). Aries is the inspiration that drives the Gemini onward and upward towards goals and the Gemini loves them for it. The Gemini individual indicates boredom toward a Taruean individual: These two signs are vastly dif- ferent. Taurus wishes to stay put and: the Gemini wants to run with the wind. ‘Taurus goes to a concert to listen while the Geminian goes to dance. The Geminian finds themselves trying to drag the Taurean everywhere, men- tally as well as physically. The Taurean is sensual and knowledgeable, but their methods are so earthy and practical that a Geminian often feels smothered. Gemini is a producer and Taurus is a preserver., and the two talents just don't seem to flow toge ther. Geminian individuals indicate incompatibility towards another Gemini: The involvement between the two Geminians will, to say the least, never be boring (much like living with four totally different person- alities). The both of you tend to be unconventional. You're both short on patience, and this is one union that will stretch your endurance and that of your partner to the breaking point. The T CASSIAR COURIER JULY 1978 15 Geminian individuals indicate indifferences toward a Cancer: The Cancer person is a perfect partner for a restful, rebound re- lationship. They'll tell the Gemini how gorgeous she or he is, laugh at the Gemini Jokes. The Cancer is peaceful, loving and dear, but not quite the match for a Gemini on any level. Geminian individuals indicate passion towards a Leo individual: The Leo person thinks that the Gemini is brilliant and capable. They know they can take a Gemini any- where. The Gemini is capable of giv- ing the Leo the compliment that they both need and appreciate constantly. The Gemini thinks that the Leo is marvelously regal, can't fault their sincerity, and love their tendency to bring you thoughtful, expensive tokens of his appreciation. Together these two signs can lose themselves in an inextinguishable desire and light up their private world. Geminian individuals indicate hate toward the Virgo individual: --ethe Virgo individual is absoltely convinced that all the kinky things that Gemini loves to do are odd in the extreme and may even be dangerous. Virgoans tend to be shocked by Gemini's debts. friends and their previous amorous affairs. Geminian individual bristle at the thought of being stuffed into virgo's mold. The Virgo will accept a Gemini completely only if the Ge ini changes in accord- ance with Virgo's game plan. Geminian individuals indicate attraction. toward the Libra individual: Libra loves Gemini's spontaneity. Gemini tends to be charmed because Virgo seems to be ultimate romantic. Gemini's multifaceted mind and coterie of odd intellectual friends intrigues and excites the Libra individual, and they're not put off by Gem¥ni's light ening shifts of moods. Geminian individuals indicate sympathetic vibrations toward Scorpio individuals. The Gemini wants to know Scorpio's deepest, darkest secrets and abandon themselves to the violence of the Scorpio emotions. The more difficult the Scorpio is to reach the more the Gemini finds themselves attracted to them. The Scorpio respects the Gemini's whole being and wishes he or she were not so jealous of Gemini's other friends. Geminian individuals indicate love toward a Sagittarian individual: The Sagittarian is Gemini's own grand glorious adventure. They're interested in everything. The Sagit- tarian tends to be friend or lover (or both) and a constant source of excitement and fun. The Gemini respects his or her honesty, charm and ability to wheel and deal. The Sagittarian appreciates Genini'’s curiosity, poetry and smile. The two signs tend to be on a joyous caper, content to play games with the rest of the world. Geminian individuals indicate in- compatibility toward a Capricorn indiv- idual: The Capricorn can't cope with Gemini's indecisive, quick changing mind. They expect and sometimes demand seriousnes& from the Geminian individual. Gemini is not interested in verbal bouts of what happened, on the job and can't tolerate _ Capricorn's bleak bouts of depression. Geminian individuals indicate desire toward the Aquarian individual: The Aquarian tends to be outrag— continued on page 18
