October 26, 1998 SPORTS Over The Edge Page 9 Man in the Steel Mask. Player Feature Tristan Jordan by Jeramy Fung Tristan Jordan is the goalie for the UNBC hockey club’s B team. After two tryouts and two exhibition games Tristan was picked to play goal for the B team. The UNBC B team has played 9 games as of October 22. They won their first game 9-2, but they have had mixed success since then. In the last game against the Huskies, Tristan’s teammate Ryan was cross-checked so hard that the opposing player broke his stick. The game resulted in 4 fights, and a large amount of hostility between the two teams. Expect an interesting match when these two teams next face off. The goaltender claims that “The team is doing alright, but there is still a lot of confusion since this is the first season they have played together” He continues by saying that “It’s a bit early to tell but | think we can win in this divi- sion.” Tristan is a stand-up goaltender. He tries to keep good positioning and aims to take shots in the pads. Thus he controls his rebounds well. Despite the last game being shaky, he feels that his play has been good this season. Tristan would not reveal his weak spot. Even though they play differ- ent styles, Andy Moog has been Tristan’s favourite NHL star. He began his hockey career by playing for- ward for two years. His mother was afraid that he would be injured if he played goal. But two years later the dream of becoming a goaltender outweighed the mater- nal protection, and Tristan donned the mask. He has been attending the Paul Fricker goal tending school since he was 12. Paul Fricker is an ex NHL goal tender who played for Hartford in 1982. Women's Timberwolf Team Has Sights Set On Goal ° by Jeremy Fung The women’s UNBC Timberwolf team had a very successful tourna- ment in Alberta. After losing three games on the thanksgiving long weekend, the Timberwolves feel that their goal of winning four games this season is not unreasonable. During the weekend of Oct16-18, they took part in the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) tournament. UNBC claimed its sec- ond and third win during the tournament. They defeated NAIT 60-52 and Briercrest 44-36. They were defeated by Medicine Hat 40-66. This was the second Prince George rate on the global scale?
