In May when the Mine road could
be travelled by power wagon, Rupert
and his crew went up the mountain,
There he remains to this very day.

His wife and family arrived in
March of 1952.

George Hanley

George came to Cassiar in June
of 1952 via Keno Hill Mine, Yukon
and Noland Mine out of Atlin, B.C.

He was hired on at Watson Lake
and the next day he started for
Cassiar. The trip took 16 hours.

On his arrival his home was a
bed in a tent, one of the many tents
on the old tentline.

The first work he had was with
the plumbers, until he was needed

up the hill. There he worked on the
first Gravity Feed Shute. He moved
down to the Mill where he has learnt
the Mill from top to bottom, also
the nuts and bolts by name.

In the fall of 1952 he built a
three room house below the tailings
pile. When the lay-off came in
February 1953, he went to Edmonton
and brought his wife and four
children here in March of 1953.

Oscar Daum

Oscar arrived in Cassiar in
early July of 1952, Before coming
to Cassiar, Oscar had worked for
a short while in Edmonton, on his
arrival from Germany.

Oscar went to work in the
Sheetmetal Shop where he worked for
a number of years. When the lay-off
came in February, 1953, Oscar went
to meet Erna in Edmonton as she was
due to arrive from Germany. Oscar
says, they practically arrived the
same day and were married right
away.

Housing was at a premium in
those days so Oscar could not bring
his bride here until August. Their
first home was a tent belav the
tai lings.
