sciousness. Someone has a problem
and needs help. If they happen to
many people this is an injury trend.

Safety Consciousness - A Challenge.

Safety consciousness means the state
of mind by which we are constantly
reminded of the possibility of in-
jury. This possibility is a threat
to our security. To counter it suc-
cessfully is a challenge.

We have to avoid this just as the
steel erector must avoid his fall.
If we fail, someone will be hurt.
‘That someone may be YOU.

We realize this very well, at times,
| very poorly at other times. For in-
| stance, a steel erector rexely falls
/He knows a fall means death. He is
willing to accept the challenge. But
less dramatic jobs produce injuries
and take lives too. :

When only a minor injury occurs we
have a habit of shrugging it off as
bound to happen and anyway nobody
got hurt - MUCH!!

Having noticed that his Scottish
j}guide usually went bare headed in
all sorts of weather, the London
sportsman made him a gift of a fur
cap with heavy ear flaps. On his
next visit to the shooting. box, he
asked the old Scot how he liked the
Cap.

Listen and remember this: when in-
juries occur because of lack of
safety consciousness,tye potential
is unlimited. It is only a matter of
time till a minor injury is replaced
| by a major one.
