One of the most fascinating, and the most difficult animals to hunt in Canada

is the Rocky Mountain goat shown above, perched on the edge of a rocky

cliff where few animals and very few hunters care to climb. British Columbia
has a goodly share of these animals.

quite a chore on its hands in the registering
of trap-lines and the registration ot guides.

This department looks after bird-banding
when such is necessary, must answer re-
quests for various types of information, see
that bounties are paid from the proper
sources, look to the stocking of fish streams
and, in general, do everything physically
possible to maintain British Columbia as

the greatest hunting, trapping and fishing
province in the Dominion.

It is no simple task, but the men who
cover the ground day after day, have learned
to accept the hardships with the grace that
is a blessing to all men in public life and
is a particular blessing to those engaged in
such a thankless job as protecting the people
from themselves.

The carrying-out of their task is not
without its humorous aspects.

Mr. Butler tells the story of the visitor
from another province who applied for a
game license. He was asked how long he
had lived in British Columbia and he replied
two years.
