95 This township is difficult of eccess through lack of trails. Access can be made along & pack trail which leaves the rort St.John wagon roast at Coal ereek in township 30 range 16. This pack trail which follows a feirly open country along Coal creek could be easily made into ea wagon road. The other available means of access is else by meansof pack trail from section 28 towmship 79 range 16 which erosses the Kiskatinaw river in thet township. This at present is not suitable for wagon read as the foré at the Kiskatinaw river is poor, the river banks being very steep. Ho settlement has been made in this town- snip. fhe country is heavily rolling ané has been swept by bush fires within reeent years which in places hes é@estroyed the humus and leaving considerable brule and heavy windfail. VYhere the humus has been burnt the groum is mow covered with a thin half-layer of MOSS. However, there are treo good acreas fit for settle-~ ment, one covering sections 13, 20 and parts of sections 18, 28 and 29, The clearing here is light and a con- siderable amount can be cleared by fire. The gress is pientiful and there is a fair amount of small dry pop lar and light winaifall making clearing by fire an easy propositions The humus over this area has not been damaged by fire, the soll being a humus undcrlayed by -@lay loem. The other portion suitable for settlement Lies along the west side of Coal ersek in the east half of section 235 and extending through the centre of seetion 26. This area can also be easily cleared. The soil is good being a humus on & clay loam. These are the areas offering the best inducement for settlement. There are other areas which might be economically in- proved, their surface being covered with scattered stenugé viz timber ani winéfsll. Although areas have the humuc damaged by fire there are some quarters where the soil has eseaped damage. The soil there is 2 inches to 4 ineshes humus on sandy loam and clay. fhe soanthern tier of sections are covered with a dense growth of poplar and apruce from 10 inches to 15 inehes in Giemeter and about 50 per cent of each. Some patches of merehantable timber could be obtained here, mainly for lecal use. th Indications of moose were seen and partridge seem plentifule
