Their rever- * ence for a crazy sense of humor, but not wing- ing out too much makes for a world view which is a bit off centre. That's no problem though. With a pure entertainment value, the Hell Billys take you through a trip that nobody would want to be on in “The Mother Ship”, an interesting ride of destruction through downtown. That well known feeling of “Our Shit Will Sell” confronts the club scene where a band can either make it or brake it. From the musical chaos in the CD's first track, The Mother Ship, it is easy to accidently draw a quick conclu- sion that the entire CD will be similar to the first tracks. Once into the CD's content, the quick musical guitar sound which composes the base for this Kingston band is easy to listen to. Simple, but not overdone. Spanning more than one musical genre, Tied to a Rocket explores the talents of the Hell Billys, finding a moderately unique Fine | Next Hime Tu let You ied with ay buttons | and then we fl See what eg lary Hach 95 ' sound to float their cyn- ical view of the world to us on. If you can't ride 2 horses at once, you shouldn't be in the circus. If you do every- thing backwards, it'll be harder to pin the blame on you.” A poetic piece of advice from Katharine Gifford, the lead singer/vocalist of Snowpony. With every track keep- ing a nice mellow pace to it, this is one kick-ass CD for playing in the background while studying for midterms. When you get down to the bottom line though, it is easy to read some very poetic messages into the lyrics of Snowpony. Formerly a member of Stereolab, the former influences shine through the shell of the band. Precise sound engineering with effects inserted at just the right moments. By Kevin Milos Various The Art of Darkness (Universal) THE ART GF DARKHESs If there is an attitude out there, then there is a CD chalk full of music to cater to it. This one is for all of those goth- ies out there. Full of scary music dating back to the 80’s up to now, this is one disc which is out just in time for halloween, with a lot of songs essential to any well versed music collection. Featuring greats such as Sisters of Mercy, Gene Loves Jezebel and The Cult, it pro- gresses to these bands more recent counter- parts such as Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, and Skinny Puppy. It definitely has a gothic flavour to it. Not much needs to be said about this CD. It caters to an attitude which has a discerning taste for the “dark side of music.” In an-era when compilations can net more dollars than a release by a single band, The Art of Darkness is bound to make a big leap within its own genre. Are you ready to face the dark side?
