Smoking is prohibited in areas where there are special fire hazards such as in or around oil tanks, oil tank farms, propane storage areas, etc. Observe all “No Smoking” signs. Strains or sprains account for many injuries. When lifting heavy loads, keep the back straight and bend the knees. If the load-is too heavy, get help. Electrical equipment in the bunkhouses, other than that provided, will not be allowed. If additional wiring is authorized, it shall be installed by the Electrical Depart- ment. Vehicle speeds in camp are 15 m.p.h. or 20 m.p.h. Obey all speed signs. There are many blind corners and forget- ful children. No excuses will be accepted for exceeding the speed limit. See traffic rules under Sec. 22 of the In- dustrial Transportation Act at the end of this book. Riding on vehicles in general is prohibited. If pas- sengers are authorized to travel on trucks, they must ride seated in the cab or in the box. Personal cleanliness is very important. Thoroughly wash or shower when changing at the end of the shift. Change your work clothes often - particularly when work- ing in dusty locations. Safety toe boots or shoes shall be worn by all em- ployees, other than office staff. Eye protection must be worn at all times as posted. A hard hat shall be worn at all times in the mine area and in other areas where the danger of falling objects may create a hazard. Always face a ladder when going up or down. Both hands must be free to steady yourself. Do not carry ob- jects in the hands when going up or down a ladder. Use a handline and also, if necessary, a sack for small parts. The top of the ladder should extend three feet above : the landing place. REMEMBER: The plantside area and the mine are out of bounds to employees off-duty and employees not working in those areas. Employees wishing to visit the mine or the mill are required to report to the office to obtain a pass which MUST be countersigned by the department head, or his deputy, before permission is given.
