Federal Government's Proposals for —

POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION FUNDING
and STUDENT ASSISTANCE : in Canada

Key Changes Proposed by the Federal Government:

e Abrogating the federal- provincial financing agreement for post-secondary

education;

Eliminating $2.6 billion in transfer payments to the provinces for post-

secondary education;

Restructuring the Canada Student Loans Program; and

e Implementing an Income Contingent Loan Repayment Plan for student
loans.

Implications of the Federal Government's Proposed Changes:

¢ Tuition fees will triple at universities and colleges;

¢ Students will be forced to borrow more money to pay for their education;
¢ Student loan debts will increase dramatically; and

¢ Access to post-secondary education will be decreased.
