In the opinion of old “‘rock- rats” and prospectors, if the Lost Mine is ever located it will be somewhere in this region. If one is to believe the numerous stories that have drifted down through the years the search for the hidden Fl Dorado has claimed more than Blackjack’s life. There’s the story of a white man’s skeleton found in the gap of the Old Man River—the skeletal fingers still clutching a bag of gold! There’s the authenticated story of two men, both badly wound- ed, stopping overnight at a ranch in the foothills. They carried with them pokes of gold-dust and mineralized quartz, and were fleeing from the west as though the devil was at their heels. Refusing to account for their wounds they rode away for Macleod next morning but never reached there —and were never heard of again! Had they re-discovered the Lost Lemon Mine only to be pursued, and killed, by jealous and wrathful Stoney Indians? Other TV pictures may include abandoned children, or articles found near the scene of a murder to help in tracing the killer. Televiewers who recognize the pic- tures will be asked to telephone the nearest police station. The new TV crime plan comes into operation at once. Rules for televising S O S messages and pictures of wanted people were worked out between the B.B.C. and Scotland Yard. Where a Chief Con- stable considers that television can assist in inquiries or in conveying in- formation to the public he will com- municate through Scotland Yard. The B.B.C. will consider each re- quest and, where satisfied that tele- vision is the proper method, will agree to put a picture on the screen. It is felt by both the B.B.C. and the police that too many of these appeals on the television screen would be likely to defeat their own object. The discussions have been going on for months since the B.B.C. had to refuse to televise the picture of a small boy missing from home in Wolver- hampton. * * CJAYV 1240 ON YOUR DIAL Serving the Industrial Heart of Vancouver Island From PORT ALBERNI Thor M.
