Page 14 — Over The Edge -- February 17, 1997 The First Annual “DJ Spinoff” -Brandi Baker On Friday, January 31, the University of Northern British Columbia held the first annual DJ Competition and Dance, in the Wintergarden. Eight young DJ’s all took centre stage mixing a fifteen minute routine, while the audience rated the placements by cheers. There was a large variety of kinds of music; varying from acid jazz, hip hop, techno, and rap. Each DJ pieced together their favorite tunes, in hope that the audience appreciated their particular choice of beats, words, and songs. At the end ‘of the night DJ Able, a.k.a. Roy DJ Sane, a.k.a. Steve Feltham, DJ chuckee, a.k.a. Keven Goodearle, and DJ Ask, a.k.a. Jon Marshall where placed up front by the audience’s cheers: placing those four as semi- finalists. The first place winner, judged by the audience was DJ Sane for his unique routine, and for mesmerizing the crowd with his talented, quick hand movements as he scratched vinyl. The other four DJ’s that took place in this competition were DJ Jelon, a.k.a. Justin, DJ Jizz, a.k.a. Ken Janzen, DJ Zero, a.k.a. Matt Besler, and DJ T-Yoda, a.k.a. Troy Derrick, Each DJ had different qualities that made their particular piece different from the other participants, this in fact made the judging a little more tricky because id depended how the audience interpreted their particular pieces, and if they liked the sound of combination of mixes. It is-hard to say if this was a completely fair contest only to fact that even if a DJ is really talented, the audience FASHION: This article is for vou Women: Men may be created equal- but not all women. Ladies...Here are some tips on buying jeans that best suit your body type. Well ladies, I know how you feel. That is feeling about the whole purchasing jeans thing. You don’t want a pair of jeans that make you look fat, out of style, the wrong size, or just the wrong name brand. I know how it feels to want to buy a perfect pair of jeans, but then becoming so frustratedthat you leave the mall. right away because they don’t have the perfect pair. Well, I have done the leg work for you ladies. Hopefully, you won’t ever have to stress about buying jeans again. I will list the body shapes and describe the best suited style of jeans to best fit your body type. Hourglass - Your middle is tiny, but jeans ‘with a roomy waist and tapered legs will create the illusion of | a long, slim, straight line. Big Butt - Always go for the biggger than- average back pockets. You need a pair othat’s not only roomy through the hips, but allows the back pockets to distract some bulk. Short - Get them low on the hips, anything to elongate your - upper body. Your best bet is to try to find the right length in your pair of jeans. Only because hemming may make your legs look even shorter. (trust me I know... ) No Hips - Create a curvy look, instead of a shapeless one. Buy jeans that ride low on the hips, continuing straight to the ankle. Average - Take your pick honey... most jeans are designed for your body. Just keep up to date with what’s hot, and what’s not. may overlook that, because they didn’t like the type of music that was played. nevertheless, the variety of DJ’s did enable the audience to be kept interested. As well creating a variety atmosphere for the students that were there only for the ‘dance’ part of the night. Even though it was a contest the DJ’s looked at if more as a fun event that they got to perform at.
