Golden Eagle--Aguila chrysaétos (Linnaeus). A mounted bird in the possession of Mr. J. B. Langston was shot about 1914 near the head of Driftwood Creek, about 15 miles north of Smithers ¢ Baid Eagle--Haliaeetus leucocephalus (Linnaeus). For an undetermined numbers of years, according to local report, a pair has nested in the forest about one-half mile north of Puntchesa- kut Lake. The nest is situated close to the top of a tall Dceuglas fir, one of a group of three that rise high above the surrounding lodgepole pines. Foliage on all sides partially conceal the nest from the view of one standing on the ground. Above the nest the main trunk for its last eight or 10 feet is devoid of branches and undoubtedly this serves as a perch for the eagles. When the place was visited at about 10:00 a.m. on May 12, the female was on the nest. When the site was approached she launched out on the air, circled overhead, and whistled several times. Almost at once the male appeared and both remained in the vicinity flying above the tree tops. A search for food remains under the nesting tree and the surround- ing trees revealed only vertebrae and other parts of several suckers. Single adults, very likely one or another of this pair, frequently were seen flying over Puntchesakut Lake. On May 16 one attempted to capture a Holboell grebe, swooping down to the water a total of eight times but each time the grebe dived before the eagle was within strik-— ing distance An adult at Dragon Lake, June 9, stood very straight in a tali dead fir that rose above lesser growth some 40 yards from the lake- shore. It did not fly when I passed close to the tree. Other adults in flight were recorded at Milburn Lake, June 10; Bouchie Lake, June 15 and Summit Lake, June 30. Still another at Swamp Lake, July 5, kept flying in circles, 60 to 100 feet above the water; it was being mobbed by eight Bonaparte gulls that continued in pursuit for the 10 minutes the eagle was under observation. A young bird, about a year old, at Chief Lake, July 7, another at Lacroix Lake, July 14, complete the list of observations. Marsh Hawk--Circus cyaneus (Linnaeus). Adults were recorded at Puntchesakut Lake, May le, May 18, May 29; Puntataenkut Creek May 16; Maclure Lake, July 15; Bulkley Lake, July el, - 65 =
