Fa hal SA a J tt Neer st a wo a | Days of the New Days of the New Outpost Recordings 2001 Days of the new are a surprisingly consistent band. Travis Meeks has put togeth- er a new lineup for Days of the New, yet he managed to keep the same sound that was on the other Days albums. By this | mean the same kind of generic mod- ern rock sound that has made Days radio darlings across Canada and the United States. Not to say that this album is bad, itis a well written album with poppy nuggets interspersed along its length that keep you humming along and tap- ping you toes. There are a few surpris- es on this album too; at the end of ‘Best of Life’ a rather upbeat ditty, there is a brief pause, then there is an amazing orchestral piece, complete with opera style singing. It flows beautifully into the next track, ‘Dirty Road’ which is probably des- tined for a radio edit and sin- * gle status. ‘Dirty Road’ has a lilting chorus that is both catchy and intriguing to listen to, something that most radio singles lack. ver The Edge Page 7 Days of the New is not a complex or particularly origi- nal band, but Travis Meeks is a good solid songwriter, and thankfully, this album is more of a return to the traditional Days of the New that we all grew to love from their first album, and lacks that weird techo-acoustic experimental- ism that Meeks was fooling around with for awhile. This outing by Days of the New is a competent release, fun to listen to, although it may not become your favourite CD.
