Over the Edge, March 10-24 2010 Page 5 | Congratulations Are in Order Timberwolves receive slew of awards Andrew Bailey Editor in Chief After such an epic season of Timberwolves basketball it should come as no surprise to fans of the green and gold that UNBC dominated the awards sheet announced last week. The provincial championships are going on as you read this so stay tuned to this fantastic publication for a breakdown of UNBC’s glorious success. Here’s a list of who won what: BCCAA Men’s Player of the Year Inderbir Gill An obvious choice since Gill finished second in the league in four categories: points per game (19.19), overall points (307), assists per game (5.19) and overall assists (83). | was moderately shocked to hear that Mohammed Jobair Satari, Douglas College’s board specialist didn’t win this award just on principle based on 175 rebounds he brought down this year, but obviously the academy decided to award Gill’s diverse skill set instead of Satari’s one-look style of talent-modeling. BCCAA Women’s Player of the Year Christine Kennedy Anyone who followed my coverage over the season would have seen this coming as Kennedy was a dynamic and prolific addition to this year’s T-Wolves leading the league in overall assists with eighty-eight and assists per game (5.5). Despite Kennedy’s awesome season this award does come as a bit of a shock since Capilano’s Jessica Franz finished the season with the most points and the most rebounds; but Vancouver got the Olympics, they don’t need anymore accolades. BCCAA Rookie of the Year Kevan Madsen Madsen is huge. His 108 total rebounds made him the 5th overall boarder in the BCCAA this year. Kevan Madsen named to All-Rookie team. Madsen is huge and is a rookie, say it with me y’all: 4 more years, 4 more years!! Mercedes VanKoughnett named to All- Rookie team Playing on the same team as Christine Kennedy does not allow for too many leftover assist opportunities. VanKoughnett found enough to land the 11th highest number of assists in the league. Christine Kennedy named to Women’s All Star First Team She’s the best, | already told you that. Jeez what more do you want from me. Kady Dandeneau named to Women’s All Star Second Team Bit of a kick in the teeth considering she finished the sea- son with the third highest points-per-game average. But a mid- season ankle injury, which kept her out a few games, lowered her overall numbers to Second Team status, which is still in- credible considering the pain she played through. Jose Araujo named to Men’s All Star First Team At the beginning of the year Coach Raimbault told y’all to be very excited about this guy. During the season Araujo showed us all why nailing 262 total points, good enough for the sixth highest point total in the league. Inderbir Gill both named Men’s All Star First Team. Gill would have set a record for most UNBC Player of the Game awards this year if any of us knew what that record was set at to begin with. He’s good, you figured that out for yourself and don’t need me to remind you. BCCAA Coach of the Year Michael Raimbault He came into a program that consistently finished near the bottom of the league and never considered a playoff berth. How have we done since his arrival? Queue Karate Kid theme song. Most Undeserving Award Recipient Of the Year- Brett Westcott (Again) Brett Westcott of Camosun College takes home this honour by being named the Women’s Coach of the Year again. They keep giving him this award despite the fact that he keeps his douche levels set to max and is an all around short- tempered fuddy- duddy with a walrus face. No one yells at his players more violently than Westcott, and no one was less deserving of their award than he.
