Nov 1, 1999 AS a woman could legally argue that her “well being” could be self-defined as perhaps not wanting to gain weight, or not wanting to lose the use of a wardrobe. Politics is the real motivator of the president’s veto. Without the support of hard line feminists, and pro-choice activists Al Gore will either lose the democratic nomination to Bill Bradley, who is to his left on the issue, or, if he’s the democratic nominee, he will lose in the general election. Bill Clinton’s veto is his eager contribution to Mr. Gore’s campaign, because as any term- limited president knows, Why should NUGSS solely fund Women’s Centre when there are tons of clubs out there, scrambling for their buck? In conclusion, | believe that Women’s Centre is a unique ser- vice that is worth pre- serving; its space and existence is guaranteed as long as_ the University allows it so. However, NUGSS should not allow a large portion of his legacy hinges on whether or not his vice president is elected in his wake. There is much spoken and written about the few “extremists” in the right-to-life movement. But the vast majority of the movement's mem- bers are kindly, com- passionate and peace- able people. It would be nice if the media, who are nothing if not dili- gent in documenting and deploring right-to- life extremism, could bring themselves to dis- approve the cold extremism of the par- tial-birth abortion advo- cates. Women’s Centre, or any -other organization for that matter, to dictate the funding allocation on its own terms when it can’t even take a rea- sonable standard of care to fulfill the con- tract it signed, and’ neglect the policies it is bound by. Mike Lau Concerned Student Editorial Question: Two weeks ago The Women’s Centre Learned that their NUGSS Funding had been slashed by 60%. This was the only notice the current Women’s Centre Co-ordinator got that their funding was under review, let alone in danger of a 60% Cut. The Women’s Centre is a Society and not a club under the NUGSS Constitution and is not governed by the same rules. The Women’s Centre is a Service. Should they be expected to fundraise in the same way as Clubs? What kind of fundraising would be approbriate? Letters to the Editor are gladly accept- ed. Greetings | from PGPIRG!
