or search service group decided to obtain another bloodhound as a co- worker for Sir Roderick of Ogden. It will be a purebred male puppy of registered strain from man-tracking parentage. During the war the Rangers were the Lower Island unit of the Pacific Coast Militia Rangers and in a vol- untary capacity did much useful work beyond that requirel by military authority, including service rendered the B C. Police. It was the desire of the Rangers to perpetuate the Ranger tradition, spirit and service that brought about the non-military peacetime reorgan- ization. KNow ISLAND LIKE A BOOK During their wartime service they thoroughly mapped and _ traversed the southern sections of Vancouver Island and it is these maps and this knowledge that makes their services so valuable to law forces. Where these forces would otherwise call upon search parties who might not be as well versed of the conditions, they now have at their disposal fully trained and experienced search parties. The Rangers have organized into groups under capable leaders and each group is recognized for its special area knowledge. SPECIAL STRETCHER One of the Rangers has devised a special stretcher which in pack form weighs only seven to nine pounds, depending upon the weight of can- vas used. There is no waste in the packing weight of the stretcher be- cause the canvas affords an_ ideal ground sheet for camping. The alu- minum spacer bars are suitable for use in cooking over an open fire. The lacing rope is versatile in many ways. Mill at Mile 12, E. & N. Rly. Cowichan Lake Branch MAIL ADDRESS: P.O.
