9. The Back Page Rocketing Into Our Minds TABATHA LUNDHOLM ARTS EDITOR Have you ever gone to a show where. you're sitting there, and completely for- get that you're actually in a concert, but just feel really close to the performers and feel like it's just hanging out? Well, on February 18, Rocket Face and The Trews made us Prince Georgers feel right at home. The opening band, Rocket Face, is currently making their claim to fame with the hit song “Dirty.” The lead singer, also the drummer for the band, is filled with such massive intensity and the audience just sat back in awe. With a hard rock sound, and great onstage personality, Rocket Face was an amaz- ing show alone. With the subtle clichés like how the bassist wore leather. pants and had long hair, and how the lead had a half-open shirt under his neck scarf, the audience was sure to remember this band. Highlights of the show were: when the lead singer/drummer got biatch. tious actually means. WORD OF THE WEEK: SURREPTITIOUS (a) (adj) Obtained, done, or made by clandestine or stealthy means. (b) (adj) To have a thick, syrupy taste; ie. Benadryl is surreptitious. (c) Phobia: you believe that Aunt Jemima is out to poison you, that crazy Answer: (a), as in “I've never been so surreptitious so of course I'll be dis- tracted when I spike the punch.’ And here's to increasing your vocabulary | courtesy of Panic! At The Disco, who may or may not know what ‘surrepti- up halfway through the song, and was replaced by another drummer without missing a beat. The Jimi Hendrix“ Voo- doo Child” cover. The wail. I've missed the wail. Rock shows just aren't rock shows until the lead belts out a note that just blows you back into your seat and gets you to pay attention. Other highlights of the show were mostly just my profound love for the talent of a singer/drummer. A great drummer, too. They were genuinely nice guys, too. Talking to the audience like old friends, like this was a social gathering, and they were just like any of the other guests. That's admirable. It takes class and a great amount of char- isma to be able to wow the audience into friendship during the first show. All in all, I'd like to say that this show was a great chance to learn about Rock- et Face, and a good opportunity to lis- ten to a great rock band play. Four out of five. Well done, boys!
