Mytown The harmonic four from Dublin, Mytown Mytown, is hitting the streets of North Cherry / Universal America, riding a wave set by the Backstreet Boys and Boyz II Men. Formed in 1996, they originally got together out of a mutual interest taking a shot at putting together a band. The multi talented group decided that they can sing, dance and write, so what else do they need. Soon enough, Mytown was touring internationally and turning heads, including the head of Teddy Riley, famed producer and Blackstreet member, who agreed to work. with Mytown and contributing his notable talents to Mytown’s style. Their recently self-titled CD includes a couple of covers, including a lovey dovey harmonized “Now That | Found You,” which is up to #4 on American rock charts behind Mark Anthony, and a remake of the 1980’s classic “Everything She Wants,” formerly per- formed by Wham. The members of Mytown, Paul, Marc, Terry and Danny all agree that the recording of their first CD was.no easy task, especially since it was an entirely new experience for them., but the vari- ous producers who they worked with took them on tour all over the world, eventually landing them a deal in North America with Cherry (New York) and Universal. Their most prominent influences, self declared, include the Bee Gee’s, Michael Jackson, and Boyz II Men, but they are definitely following in the mas- sive wake of the Backstreet Boys and the all teen rhythm-pop scene. Taking this with a grain of salt, they do have a sound which can keep your attention, landing them prominent slots on spin charts all over the continent. With the right promotion, these Mytown has the potential to go far. -Kevin Milos Jann Arden Jann Arden is always moving and Blood Red Cherry evolving her music, which is probably Universal most of the reason why she has been around so long. While Blood Red Cherry maintains the sonic diversity ‘which Jann Arden is so well known for, her awesome songwriting skill, and her ability to “make your heart ache with indelible melody,’ it the sound has also evolved once again. Known for emotional songs such as “| Would Die For You,” “Could | Be Your Girl” and “Insensitive,” Jann has for the first time decided to lay down her acoustic guitar in some of the songs on Blood Red Cherry. This is obviously Any news of a BTNH breakup was simply gossip, according to members Krayzie, Wish, Flesh, Layzie and Bizzie,.who are.definitely back together, as BTNHRESSURECTION | can sattribute to. Following the major success of Billborard Hot 100 eight-week top hot 100 holder “Tha Crossroads,” which ied the Beatles for fastest rising single, BTNH more or less split and went their own ways, following plans which they had before they even began recording as a group to record their own indepen- dent albums. This is an attribute to why successful groups shouldn’t grow an ego and split. The five were relatively Bone Thugs-n-Harmon BTNHRESURRECTION Ruthless / Sony t apparent on songs such as “Another Human Being” where Jann’s continuing charity work took her to Africa while working with World Vision'a couple of years ago. This song uses a drum machine and a variety of synth sounds, which is a surprise coming from Jann Arden. The result is like nothing which she has ever done before, and Jann acknowledges the fact that she was at first leery about using the synth’s, but she believes that they have found a unique way of using the hybrid sounds. Jann’s experience in Africa turned a page in her life, an effect which is dra- matically apparent in the difference unsuccessful on their own, but self admittedly, BTNH realizes that each of them going their own way probably benefited the band in the long run since they. have some fresh ideas and styles to work with. These new styles have resulted in a charged sensation of careful but promi- nent raps riding a militant burst of ener- gy. In the R&B world, BTNH is a sonic force to be reckoned with. Well engi- neered background grooves keep the entire show together. One of the cool things about BTNH, and richly apparent on BTNHRES- SURECTION is the fact that they have message and meaning behind their between Blood Red Cherry and any- thing which she has ever written before. An emotional, subtle, and sometimes humorous compilation, Blood Red Cherry is one of the finest works by one of the finest Canadian (Calgary) artists.
