EDITOR’S MESSAGE QOyer tHe Ence | Volume 13, Issue 7 January 10, 2007 EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Andrew Kurjata MANAGING EDITOR PRODUCTION COORDINATOR Tyler Clarke NEWS EDITOR Cameron Orr Well, that was quick. ARTS EDITOR Tabatha Lundhoim I am, of ‘course, referring not only to the holiday break, but the year of 2006 in general. Even though I can barely re- ‘member all the way back to January of last year (the Winter Olympics and elec- tion of Stephen Harper seem like far-off memories), I still can't shake the feeling that we just got started.on the first year in the second half of the new millenium. And now they're telling us that it’s time to go out there and buy new calendats and start putting a“7” at the end of our dates? It seems so arbitrary. It would seem far more logical to have things switch around in September-- end of summer, beginning of fall, new year for school, new TV season-- it makes so much more sense. The only thing that would really accomplish would be making it so that I'get this feeling of time flying by WRITERS Cody Willet Jeremy Johnson | Haakon Sullivan Reel iacdé later); I supposé the only thing we can do is plunge in headlong into it and try to keep up. PHOTOGRAPHERS Mitch Grant And so here it is, the first issue of 2007. It’s a bit small, I know, but to be fair the deadline was the first day of school, making it somewhat of a tight schedule. There's a few things in here that I'm quite happy about, though, First CONTRIBUTORS Devin King Mel Friesen (Nexus) TWO OVER THEEDGE EDITORS AT THE BATTLE OF THE BANDS four months earlier (or eight months’ © MUCH GRANT and foremost are the results of the 2006 Over the Edge reader's poll. What I'm most happy about is the fact that I was voted man of the year. This may have. something to do with the fact that I act- ively encouraged people to vote for me, but I take the fact that they saw no good reason NOT to do so as an encouraging sign. So what if I was disqualified? This issue also has our first edition of SongFiles, a regular feature where Over the Edge staffers listen to new and old singles and discuss their general merits, _ drawbacks, and whatever else springs into their head: Hopefully you enjoy it and maybe find some good music along the way. If you go to our MySpace page (myspace.com/overtheedgenews) there should be a blog that gives you links to all the songs we discuss. Let us know what you think! If you are interested in giving a few minutes of your time to helping out here at Over the Edge, our meetings are. going to be held 'in the office'in the Wintergar- den on Thursday afternoons, Were still trying to figure out an exact time that works for evetyone, so stop by or email and ask. It seems I've finally filled up all the- white space left on this page,so I'll just say so long! -Andrew Kurjata OVER THE EDGE NEWSPAPER. Why is this important? Because YOU should go to it. You see, an AGM (or Annual General Meeting, in non-acronymic language) is when all the owners of Over the Edge-- ie the students of UNBC-- get to assess how they like the way things are going at the newspaper, propose changes, and vote on said proposed changes, There could be all sorts of crazy changes made without (or with) your vote! That's what democracy is for, isnt it? Making crazy changes? Yes, it is! If you have any questions, email over-the-edge@unbc.ca, or drop by the office. Do the same thing if you want to write a letter to the editor, contribute an article, let us know about some sort of cool event that’s going on, or whatever else.
