UNBC is a pretty big school and there are a lot of things to do and a lot of people to see. For those of you new to the campus this semester, getting used to everything might seem a little overwhelming. In order to make things easier for you, here is a breakdown of some of the most popular clubs at UNBC. There is something for everyone here on campus so if you don’t see the club you are looking for here, be sure to check out all the tables during Clubs Days September 12-16. International Studies Students Association The International Studies Student Association organizes events to help foster a sense of community in the International Studies department. The club focuses on fun events that bring together all students, as well as faculty. The events include the Annual INTS bowling night and many others. 1 uET Fr B18, HO, Alpha Pi Beta Sorority The UNBC sorority is a sisterhood that promotes fun and philanthropy through events, volunteering and providing a network of friends for each other. The Anthropology Club The club will endeavor to provide social connections for UNBC anthropology students by hosting social events, fundraisers and music shows. The club will also try to engage guest lecturers from various fields of anthropology to speak at UNBC, as well as to send eligible students to conferences. The Arabian Club Our aim is to provide educational and informative presentations through social activities about the Arabian culture and customs for the UNBC community, and the Prince George community. Our social organization will include many interactive activities that will be mainly held on campus. The Arabian Club welcomes all students of UNBC to participate in its upcoming events. Chemistry Club The UNBC Chemistry Club is involved in various activities throughout the community, mainly reaching out to elementary and high school students and educating them about chemistry. We do this by hosting a chemistry magic show, a science fair and tutoring. We also organize recreational activities for club members, such as paintball. UNEBC CHEMISTRY » CLUB Commerce Student Society The Commerce Student Society is dedicated to providing UNBC commerce students with real-world business experiences that extend beyond traditional classroom learning. We involve students by offering academic events such as The Apprentice, social events that foster community spirit within the business faculty, and various professional events, including the Career Fair and the Business Dinner. We also provide information and facilitate access to various conferences and networking opportunities with the aim of developing students that will enter the business world as well- rounded, conscious members of society. There are many positions available within CSS that allow students to get involved at any level they want. The CSS also maintains a close partnership with UNBC’s JDC West team, and participates in a number of charity events, one of the most notable being 5 Days for the Homeless. Drama Club The Drama Club is comprised of anyone who enjoys acting, set design, costume, and all things involved with theater. We are fun and provide a safe and trusting environment for people to try new things and explore their crazy acting side. The Drama Club puts on two big shows a year, one each semester. In the first semester, a series of one-act plays with some sort of a theme is put together, while in second semester a full-length play is the focus. Everyone who wants a part gets a part, and we encourage people to go outside of their comfort zone to create a better actor. Each year we’ve gotten more ambitious with the plays we’ve put on and will continue to push ourselves to bigger and better things. We play improv games to warm up and become comfortable acting with everyone in the group. We hold a few fundraisers to raise money to put on our shows. Dance Club The UNBC Dance Club is a fantastic way to meet new people and learn a variety of dances while having a ton of fun. We are open to everyone whether you have dance experience or not. Come check us out! There are weekly lessons, occasional workshops, and possibly even a performance or two! General Arts Interest Association (GAIA) This club promotes artistic activities through art workshops, outlets for local/student artists, networking opportunities and acts as a liaison between the UNBC arts council and the undergraduate student body. Greywolves Hockey Club This club participates in a local recreational hockey league at the B division level, plays roughly 40 regular season games, and a few playoff games We hold try-outs during the first few weeks of September. We also usually travel east to McBride once a semester to play their local team and also to compete in a tournament in which we placed second in last year. The Greywolves hockey club holds fundraising events in order to gather enough money for our travels and to also solidify the team as a fun and prominent club at the university. Curling Club The club’s purpose is the promotion of curling. This is achieved through providing an opportunity to play and improve your skills, teaching beginners, meeting new people, and having fun. History Club History Club The History Cub is a way for History and non-History students to get together and take part in such socials as Movie Nights, Theme Nights, Bowling and trips to locations that are both historic and non-historic. Everyone is welcome and all events are aimed at both perpetuating historical discussion and student-student and student- professor interaction. Indigenous Peoples Club The Indigenous Peoples Club welcomes everyone from all walks of life that are interested in learning and participating in cultural traditions native to indigenous peoples of North America. The aims of this club are to improve the indigenous student life at UNBC through traditional education and extra-curricular activities. Intervarsity Christian Fellowship The Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship, or IVCF, is a community of undergraduate and graduate students who seek to follow the life and teachings of Jesus. Our goal is to love God and our neighbour with all that we are and do. We seek to serve the students, staff, and faculty at UNBC, the greater Prince George community, and God’s good creation. Our undergrad and graduate groups meet weekly to share a meal, study scripture and pray. We also provide a weekly free “dinner and discussion” for students living in residence. We participate in various service projects at the University and within Prince George; we have an annual spiritual retreat, participate in environmental projects, go on hikes, watch movies, play pool, drink coffee, play snowshoeing football and hang out. Acapella Choir Club Men and women’s choruses meet weekly to practice singing skills and learn new music. We perform at various events during the year, including the Festival of Tress, singing telegram fundraisers and a year-end concert. We sing a wide range of music, from barbershop to classic rock and modern pop and Disney songs. UNBC Medieval Club The UNBC Medieval Combat and Culture Club promotes the medieval culture and combat through events. Exciting events that showcase the talents of the club include historically accurate clothing, food, lifestyle and activities. The club also hosts annual combat tournaments, as well as traveling throughout Western Canada to compete with other clubs and individuals. UNBC Men’s Rugby The UNBC Men’s Rugby Club strives to expose UNBC students to the sport of rugby. The team is open to players of all skill and experience levels. During the snow-free season, UNBC rugby practices outdoors to prepare for tournaments and exhibition games. The team usually travels once or twice a semester to participate in rugby tournaments around BC and Alberta. During the winter, the team practices indoors at the Northern Sports Centre to stay fit and prepare for indoor rugby game days. The club also does a number of fundraising events, including the famous Halloween Dance and the Hawaiian Luau in February. Students for a Green University Students for a Green University is UNBC’s environmentalist club. We aim to educate, motivate and inspire UNBC students, staff and faculty to make changes in their everyday lives, as well as at the University. Our activities include informative documentary screenings, protests, rallies, petitions, workshops, fundraisers and ongoing campaigns to address particular issues. Every year we run events such as the car count, bottled water free day and a radio show on CFUR, as well as participating in events like Green Day and the BC Rivers Day Music Festival. World University Service of Canada (WUSC) WUSC is a ccross-Canada club that focuses on providing education to all individuals in order to work towards social change. Every undergraduate student pays 2$/semester towards sponsoring a student refugee to come to Canada and study at UNBC. The club also does annual awareness and fundraising events, ranging from fair-trade markets to poverty awareness.
