Over The Edge Page 2 Sports Bobluary tiBboe UNBC Sports Update By Diane Hypolite UNBC Basket Ball Since the last day update the Timberwolves, Men’s and Women’s teams, has experi- enced a slight roller coaster effect. January 25, the Lady Timberwolves won 76-62 against the Kwantlen Eagles but then ended up losing 71- 76-to the Douglas College Royals._Ouch! This was a bit of a burn sinc Royals have been beaten by every one else, pretty much, have placed last in BCCAA women’s play. That’s alright, though, because the Lady T- Wolves moved up one to sev- enth place in the BCCAA. The Men’s basketball team also went one for one that weekend. They lost 73-75 to the Eagles. Todd Jordan has been recognized that game, however for showing some incredible skill on the court. He shot 3 out of four perfect 3 pointers and all ina row! The next night, the T-Wolves cleaned up though with a crushing defeat of the Royals 79-61! They also led most of the game by ten points. Nice job guys! Now are they sit- ting comfortably in place at 6th in the BCCAA. Star Awards go out to: *Christina Neufeld (#7, Fort Nelson): She ranks 4th in the province for average rebounds per game at 9.38, and she’s steadily climbing. eDean Whalen (#10, Pt. Coquitlam): He’s leading the BCCAA in average points per game at 26.69. eRaju Korotana (#4, Richmond): Watch out Whalen! He’s coming up fast behind at 5th with 8.69. eMike Davis (#14, Richmond): He’s keeping pace with Korotana, also sit- ting in 5th with an average 6.31 assists per game. UNBC Hockey: The Wolfpack has been pretty busy! They were unde- feated at their second inter- collegiate tournament hosted at Trinity with one win and two draws. They tied against UCC 3-3 and TWV 2-2. Sunday, January 25 was their triumph though, completely obliterating the Selkirk by an amazing 23-41 When you add this to the fact that two players, Lee Drummond (#10, Yukon Territories) and Ryan Dawson (#5, Prince George) were down and out, forcing the Wolfpack down to three defensemen and eight forwards, it almost seems eerie! Star Award goes out to: eDerek LeBouef (#1, Saskatchewan): He’s been named MVP. UNBC Men’s Hockey Goes Undefeated at Recent TWU Inter-Collegiate Tournament By Craig Metcalf The UNBC Wolfpack trav- eled down to Vancouver for an_inter-collegiate tourna- ment hosted by Trinity Western University (TWU) on the weekend of January 26th. The Wolfpack went undefeat- ed in the TWU tournament, gaining one win and two draws. The team trounced Selkirk College 23-4, and attained two draws against TWU and UCC; the. scores were UNBC 3 - UCC 3, and NUGSS EGM By Colleen O’Grady On Wednesday, February 6 the Northern Undergraduate Student Society (NUGSS) held their Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) after the previous Wednesday when they failed to make quorum (number of people attending) at their Annual General Meeting (AGM). The agenda moved the Audit Report to the first item on the agenda conducted by an independent auditor, and then completed the financial report presented by the NUGSS Director of Finance. The third item on the agenda was to amend the by-laws. Most of the by-laws were just for clarification and grammar, however in the by-laws did change the rate that people will pay for NUGSS fees, for regional students it will be cheaper, but for main cam- pus it will be more expensive. At the EGM held in the fall Student fees were made to be a.fixed rate of 30 dollars per semester for every stu- dent regardless of credit load. At this EGM the NUGSS fee was increased to. 32 dollars per semester for students studying at the Prince George Campus, and 22 dollars for students study- ing elsewhere. The other non-grammatical or arrange- ment changes in the by-laws included that a NUGSS direc- tor should now visit major UNBC campuses once per semester. These campuses are Fort St. John, Quesnel, - and Terrace. In the health and dental plan to come into effect in September are now in the bi-laws. After the bi- laws the Directors gave their reports. They elected an Auditor for next year and then adjourned the meeting. UNBC 2 -TWU 2. The UNBC Wolfpack held leads late into the third period in both the UCC and TWU games, but ran out of steam late in both cases. The team played exceptionally well consider- ing the adversities it faced. Separated shoulders to Lee Drummond — and Ryan Dawson forced the Wolfpack to 4 defensemen and 7 for- wards in an already limited lineup during their first game versus UCC, which was broadcasted on CFUR. With no trainers available to the Wolfpack, the team was left under-resourced, but made up for it with enormous heart, skill, and determina- tion against UCC and TWU, who both held four lines each, as well as a full coach- ing staff. Many onlookers stated that it said a lot about the players’ contributions to the team. The Wolfpack’s MVP of the tournament would have to be second-year goalie Derek LeBouef, as he kept the Wolfpack in all of the games. The UNBC men’s hockey team has a 2-0-1 record vs UCC, 0-1-1 vs TWU and 2- They look forward | to increased community support next season, with hopes of new potential sponsorship deals. They would like to thank Big-O tires, White Spt, KPMG, Dr. D R.
