COLONEL S. T. Woop Commissioner of R.C.M.P., Ottawa N THIS 22ND EDITION of The Shoulder Strap we welcome the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to British Columbia and at the same time bid farewell to the British Columbia Provincial Police Force. We are pleased to welcome such a fine force as the R.C.M.P. with its rich traditions, but we sincerely regret the passing of the grand force which The Shoulder Strap served through twenty-one editions. In tts long and colorful history the B.C. Provincial Police Force was a shield of the weak and the nemesis of the law breaker. The force’s history was marked by a keen appreciation of progressive ideas and as the oldest territorial police force tn Canada the B.C. Police led the way for other Canadian law enforcement agencies. The great majority of B.C. policemen transferred over to the R.C.M.P. and have carried with them the fine traditions of the B.C. force to another force equally steeped tn tradition. The Shoulder Strap’s associations with the B.C. Police have always been exceedingly pleasant as no doubt will our associations with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. In the larger field of activity The Shoulder Strap will expand to cover all police activities in the. West. Not only will the activities of the R.C.M.P. recetve full coverage but all other police forces in the West will be included. In addition to giving full coverage of police topics The Shoulder Strap plans to widen its field of interest by including articles of general interest with emphasis on hunting, fishing and tourism in the West.
