OPF. COMMENCEMENT ANNUAL Q ‘ NG Y Miss Ruth McGregor OR seven years past Miss McGregor has been Boys’ Matron at Coqualeetza. She is, in fact, the veteran resident statf member. During these years hundreds of boys have passed under her motherly care, and scores have gone out from Coqualeetza with the impress of her careful training upon them. That this impress has been a lasting and affectionate one is evidenced by the fact that large numbers of her boys continue to keep in touch with her after leaving school. That Miss McGregor also receives letters from practically every ex-member of the Staff who has been associated with her on the Boys’ side, as well as from numerous others who were less closely connected with her during their term of office at Coqualeetza, bears eloquent testimony to the esteem in which she is held as a co-worker. Fur- thermore, in spite of the almost incalculable demands upon her daily as “guide, counsellor and friend” to over a hundred boys, Miss McGregor has managed, during the seven years to acquire many firm friends in the neighbourhood outside the school. In view of such witness to her sterling worth it is manifest that few could be more deserving of the splendid holiday that Miss McGregor is taking this summer. Her plans were to leave for San Fran- cisco on April 24th, sailing thence for New York via the Panama Canal, and from there to London, from which point she will make a tour of the British Isles and Europe, returning next September to Coqual- eetza, where she will certainly receive a very warm “welcome home.” During her absence her position is being filled by Miss Nichol, previously Diningroom Mistress. On the eve of Miss McGregor’s departure the members of the staff, principal and family, and several of her good friends, met in her honour, and presented her with a very handsome pin-seal bag to carry with her on her travels, bidding her “bon voyage’ and “au revoir” with the heartiest expres- sions of good will. The students also made her an informal presentation of a dainty filigree white-gold bar pin, set with sapphires and pearls, affectionately wishing her a most delightful trip and a safe return.
