On arrival at the Personnel Office the following documents must be pre- sented: Contract of hire Application for employment form Asbestosis form Social Security card Safety glasses (if prescription) Next stop is the hospital where the doctor completes the medical check and verifies each employee’s fitness to commence work. From the hospital employees pro- ceed to the Royal Bank of Canada where an account is established, as earnings are paid by deposit to each employee’s account. Initial expenses may include the purchase of safety boots and any required personal items. Following the bank, employees go to the warehouse where they purchase safety shoes. The employee next returns to the Personnel Office where working condi- tions are explained and any previous experience or training of benefit to the Company is noted. When finished at the Personnel Of- fice the new employee proceeds to his respective department where he is introduced to his Supervisor and as- signed his first shift. In the event the employee is a Tradesman or an equipment operator he is directed to Training Center where he is advised of the training available and, if applicable, the means by which he can re-classify to higher categories. All new employees are scheduled to attend a Safety Indoctrination meet- ing. This requirement must be met as very important information on Com- pany policies, requirements and prac- tices, fire control, safety and the legal aspects are explained.
