A radio communication system coy-
ering every detachment in the pro-
vince is planned by the R.C.M.P,,
officials report.

Reports that the former B.C. Police
radio network of approximately 25
stations was being cut in half Were
denied, and a spokesman for the
“mounted” force said:

Three or four of the former BiG:
Police radio stations had been dis-
banded because R.C.M.P. radio €x-
perts at Ottawa did not consider con-
tinued operation was justified.

“We were getting only two or three
reports a month from some of them,”
it Was stated.

The equipment from these stations
is being moved to other locations
where it will be put to greater use,

Meanwhile the force is spending
“large sums of money” on radio com-
munications in the southeastern sec-
tion of the province, and it is intended
to continue the communications ex-
pansion program until all areas of
B.C. are included, it was revealed.

The project entails a point-to-point
radio system linked with the national
communications system of the force;
B.C. detachment hook-ups and patrol
car radio. ¥
