The soil throushout the district is fairly uniform and consists chiefly of sandy loem, fine sandy loam and clay loam. Small areae of sand or gravelly soils cecur on the higher lands, aiso very limited areas with clay soils were noted. sandy loam = fhe sandy loam is the most important as weil as the most extensive soil type of the district. fhe soil of the Pouce Coupe district is chiefly @ sandy leam, rich with organic matter, to a depth vary- ing trem three to twelve inches, on a clay loam subsoil to a éepth of two feet. The substratum is generally clays However, it has been noted in the deep cuts of stream valley that pockets of sand occure ‘Soil of this type has good natural drainage. The area with sandy loam found in the rough country on the east side of the Pouce Coupe river is of the hard burned type, of a whitish eolor and is vractically without vegetation.
