THE THEORY & TECHNIQUE OF ASTROLOGICAL
PRACTICE

How are the planets able to influence people’s lives,
you ask? This is a question that astrologers have had a dif-
ficult time, replying to, and the credibility of science of
astrology has suffered because of it. Thanks to the ad-
vances of physics, along with a greater understanding of
the late twentieth century, this question can finally be giv-
en an answer.

First of all, astrology is a perceptive science, and if it
is to be accepted as such, it must be able to justify itself in
the light of the latest discoveries (scientifically) in its field
that of ‘‘celestial mechanics’’. Astrology has a certain ad-
vantage over science because astrology’s principle explains
the general scheme of life. Science can’t do this. It only
suspects that in time it will eventually be able to, but
scientific method is to prove each step, progressing grad-
ually from one theory to another toward whatever truth
lies at the end.

It is quite obvious that a gap will exist for a long per-
iod of time between what science discovers and what ast-
rology claims to know, but science and astrology are on
converging courses and in the end the two will merge.
There is enough common ground with today’s knowledge
to express a rational explanation as to how astrology func-
tions.

Basically, astrology is the science of electro-magnet-
ism perceived before its time. If this basic concept can be
grasped, then half of the question, ‘‘How can the planets
affect life?’’ is answered. The other half of the question
depends on science’s next phase of discovery in the
“cybernetic” field. Astrology falls between science’s study
of “electromagnetism” and ‘’cybernetics’’.

Prior to the discovery of electromagnetism in 1831,
astrology had a difficult time trying to explain its technic-
al art in rational terms. Astrological practitioners knew
that their astrological science worked, but how could they
express the workings. In 1871 Maxwell formulated a sing-
le mathematical theory that made it possible to under-
stand electromagnetism. This mathematical theory led to
the development of modern physics and electronics.

If the scientific principles had not yet been conceived
how could the ancient and medieval astrological practition-
er explain the dynamics of their craft? The only reply a
practitioner could supply to the disbeliever or doubter
was through occult, meta-physical or magical jargon, as

this was the only language available to describe the mir-
aculous results that were so evident at that time. As math-
ematics is the language of celestial mechanics, so astrology
has its language to express celestial consequences. The
symbols found both in mathematics and astrology have
the same ancient origins.

THE ZODIAC

Astrology is based on the Zodiac, a word derived
from the Greeks, meaning “‘animal circle’, or a circle of
animals. Astrology is indebted to the ancients, who saw
symbolism in the constellations and the existence of the
spatial zodiac, but the only connection between the two
is symbolical.

The astrological zodiac is nothing more than an ab-

stract division of the sphere of space into twelve segments -

represented by signs. These twelve signs of space are pat-
terns of human characteristics, and between them they re-
present the twelve psychological types, or the twelve basic
ways in which individuality of the human expresses his or
her self.
The twelve distinct divisions of character generally

known as the Sun Signs are as follows:

Aries — The Ram

Taurus — The Bull

Gemini — The Twins

Cancer — The Crab

Leo — The Lion

Virgo — The Virgin

Libra — The Scales

Scorpio — The Scorpion

Sagittarius — The Archer

Aquarius — The Water Bearer
Pisces — The Fish

The twelve basic ways, or spheres of human activity
generally referred to as the houses are listed next along
with an abbreviated description of their meanings.

First House — personality, self-centred interests, individ-
ual outlook on life

Second House — possessions, finances, basic security
Third House — communication with the environment;
close relatives, neighbors, speech, writings, short trips and
the intellect

Fourth House — home, the psychological self, the uncons-
cious, traditions and one’s childhood

Fifth House — self-protection, pleasures, love affairs, one’s
offspring, sensual enjoyment, creativity, talents and ideas
Sixth House — employment, daily tasks, hygiene, basic
necessities, diet, duty, pets and general health

Seventh House — marriage partner, social awareness, legal
matters, marriage, divorce, business partners, contracts
and war.

Eighth House — Life after death, shared feelings, legacies,
death, the sex urge, partner's resources , taxes and psycho-
analysis

Ninth House — long journeys, dreams, foreign countries,
organized sports, publicity, philosophical speculations,
and religions

Tenth House — one’s career or profession, fame, attain-
ment, status, public standing, corporations and govern-
ment

Eleventh House — humanitarian objectives, idealism, im-
personal relationships, group activities, friends and unex-
pected happenings

Twelfth House — sacrificial service, hospitals, secret mo-
tives, treachery, neuroses, confinement, seclusion, hidden
enemies, prison and exile.

Every House has an affinity with a sign, beginning with
Aries. t

The Zodiac is formed from these two qualities of
space, (Houses and Signs) — like two circles slowly rotat-
ing one inside the other, when an energy source, (a planet)
is in one of the divisions of the signs, it throws that part-
icular character inward into a life situation, (a house div-
ision), and the combined image appears on the earth at
the centre of the circle as an individual and his environ-
ment. -
