Take One MiTCHELL GRANT Pxoto Epiror On April 3, 2007 Cariboo- Prince George MP, Dick Harris, returned to UNBC for the second time this semester to announce on behalf of the Federal Health Min- ister Tony Clement, that Canada’s new government will. be contribut- ing $400,000, towards Aboriginal and Rural Health Education. The intent of this is to show Steven Harper’s new Conservative gov- ermment’s commitment to fund- ing projects which can improve the lives of not just Canadian, but specifically Northern citizens. This program is aimed towards the specific healthcare needs of Northern and rural communities Take Two HAAKON SULLIVAN Starr WRITER On April 3, the Conservative MP for Cariboo-Prince George, Dick Harris, came by to UNBC to make an announcement concern- ing UNBC’s aboriginal and rural health programs. He came on the behalf of Federal Health Minister Tony Clement to announce that these programs will be receiving four hundred thousand dollars towards increasing the building’s program capacity. “Canada’s new government ARDER OF. fecal TW and when completed will give 850 trained northern residents the ability to properly care for those in Aboriginal and Northern com- munities and deal with public health challenges. Specifically this project will produce protocols and agreements for the collaborative training of students by a partnership of uni- versities including the University of Saskatchewan, Lakehead Uni- versity, Northern Ontario School _ of Medicine, Memorial Univer- sity of Newfoundland, and of course, UNBC. This partnership will allow a shared curriculum and course material for undergraduate, graduate and continuous learning. These steps will lead to making more trained is committed to funding projects which improve the lives of those who live in northern, aboriginal, and rural communities,” said Har- ris during his announcement. This money is coming from a program called the “Public Health Workforce Development Products and Tools Contribution Program” which is a part of the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).
