then they were both made of iron). They went and bought a load of gro- ceries loaded them onto Gords ski- doo.- - come to think of it he had the first and only ski-doo in town, one of these old fashioned two piece affairs. Remember too, Gord was a man over 50 and his going all by himself in the middle of winter over 60 miles of snow filled road and all the way back, 120 miles. If any- thing went wrong no one had anyway to get to him, I'd say he had courage. At the Cottonwood Bridge a bull moose stood on one side of the bridge while Gord sat on the other side. Gord said it took him over an hour to convince the moose that he had as much right to cross the brid- ge as it had. At that time Gord had a cabin on Pine Tree Lake and he decided to put up there for the night. As no trail was cut into the cabin, he had to leave the sleigh load of groceries some ways off. The | only thing that bothered him was that wolves might come and start to eat the groceries. Then he rememb- ered reading somewhere that if you urinated in a circle around some- thing, wolves would never cross the line. So with that in mind he started to make the circle around th ski-doo. As Gord put it, "it was a great idea only |! ran out of water halfway round'', Halfway round must have worked as the groceries were untouched in the morning and he started on up the road, arriving at a point on the road opposite the buildings across the Lake. He yelled “himself hoarse and not a sign of life across the lake. This deter- mined Scot loaded the groceries cn his back, put on snow shoes, clamb - ered down the hill and across the lake to find the women and kids all hiding because they were afraid of him. In due course they all appear- ed and a brew of tea was made. | After a short rest he started back, tired and worn out. Tired he must have been because he went right by his own cabin in the darkness and was at the Cotton- wooc nefore he realized It. There a problem presented Itself, he did not have enough gas to get to Casstar. Did he have enough to get back to the cabin where he had some? Continued next Issue....1'm kidding, he got back alright, but only just, the ski-doo coughed its last as he turned off the road to the cabin. He cooked himself a great big steak, then crawled Into bed, clothes and all to sleep the sleep of the just, the next day he headed home to be greeted by what was a very worried wife. Oh yes, and the indians that brought the news to town? They went down to the pub, but | guess that's another story. xk & & NOTICE In order to preserve some of the history of Cassiar, the Cassiar Public Library is gathering past issues of the Asbestos Sheet to be placed in the library for public reference. lf you have past editions of the Asbestos Sheet that you may wish to donate to the Cassiar Library, please send them to Mrs. Pat Flanagan, Cassiar Public Library or The Asbestos Sheet, c/o Training Centre.
