CasstaR 1952 Wm. (Bill) Storie Bill and his family lived at Quartz Creek along with the Hope family before the asbestos era. He came in to this country to prospect hoping to find gold in them thar hills, he did, but not gold. In 1951, Bill had a contract with Cassiar Asbestos Corp., to build the lower campsite. This consisted of log buildings and pre- fabs, also a few frame ones. During the winter he did other jobs, such as electrical wiring and in the Powerhouse. In 1952 when the mill was far enough com leted for machinery to be installed, Bill was one of the men to work on this project. He went from this to be an operator for a short while, then to mill mechanic until he decided to quit in 1955, Bill still returns to Cassiar to look after his business interests in the area. He has a son, Robert attending school here and a married daughter, Pat Borsato who works at the bank. Rupert McKenzie Rupert came to Cassiar in early January, 1952 from Central Patricia Mines in north western Ontario. He had worked there for 12 years. In those days the big vans could not travel the Old Cassiar Road so the supplies and equipment had to be off loaded at Watson Lake. It was put in a warehouse there and then picked up by Rupert and brought to Cassiar. He also picked up the new employees at the plane. The return trip could take as much as 3 days.
