Mr. Jack Grant put forward some priorities which he hoped the Council would become involved with in the near future. They were: - report card format - school building changes - parent - student handbook - school programs The pros and cons of a student dormitory were under discussion as was the issue of discipline in the schools. These are topics which the Coun- cil hopes to examine thoroughly at future meet- ings. The Council agreed that it would not become involved with individual grievances between parents and teachers. However, as your elected members we are all available to listen to any problems you may have and hope- fully can give advise as how to go about resolving them. We are also eager to have any ideas or suggestions for future Council meetings. The Dease Lake citizens were concerned that nobody had bothered to ask whether they desired to join the Regional District(s). Many businesses in the Dease Lake area are interested in planning the community and are interested in the concept of Regional Government, but the biggest stumbling block is the question of the availability of sub- divisional lands. This was a very emotional and frustration-ridden subject. This community also does not have any radio or telephone communication services. The best radio reception comes from the U.S.S.R., Radio Moscow. Dease Lake is being served by C.N.T. from three locations: Gillis Store, B.C.R., and the R.C.M.P. - these have direct microwave connec- tions. This service is not well-publicized in Dease Lake and Mr. Yamkowy will be putting a public information ad in the Cassiar Courier informing the residents of the area of this service availa- bility. | also made contact with Mr, Gary Kanne- berg, resident businessman, and he will organize a Chamber of Commerce in Dease Lake - so they will have some community organization and will be represented on a Provincial and national al pice ee Mary Tomashewski drew the 100% discount egg on Apri 9 during the Easter Egg Sale held by Rose’s Clotheses of Cassiar. A federal-provincial transportation agreement signed April 21 in Victoria provides federal funds to the province to continue improvements to Highway 37 from Stewart to Watson Lake and the uncompleted portion of this highway between Meziadin Junction and Kitwanga. The agreement provides for continuation of construction undertaken during the last two fiscal years. Its aim is to improve the transpor- tation system in northern British Columbia as a contribution to the development of an efficient national transportation system; to improve ac- cess to areas with high proven resource poten- tial; and to provide access to isoiated northern communities to participate in northern develop- ment opportunities. It derives from a commit- ment made at the Western Economic Opportuni- ties Conference (WEOC) and advances the ’ objectives of the Canada-British Columbia General Development Agreement ‘signed in ~ 1974. The announcement was made jointly today by Mrs. Campagnolo, on behalf of Transport Minister Otto Lang and Regional’ Economic Expansion (DREE) Minister Marcel Lessard; and by British Columbia Minister of Highways and Public Works, Alex Fraser, and British Co- lumbia Minister of Economic Development, Don Phillips. lona Campagnolo, MP for Skeena, announced approval today for 34 Canada Works Projects, designed to employ over 200 area residents. It may also serve to bring the many native groups in North- west British Columbia together for common discussion. An office will be established in Terrace to coordinate this project. EMPLOYMENT |-am pleased to see that $1% million more in job creation projects will be awarded in Skeena. A short while ago-| informed you that $850,000 _in Canada Works Projects had been awarded in our area.
