Page 18 Cassiar Courier March 1987 MINOR HOCKEY Cassiar Minor Hockey had two entries in the An- nual Watson Lake Minor Hockey Tournament. Unfortunately, Watson Lake did not have Pee Wee and Bantam/Midget divisions and only the Novice and Atom teams went. Both teams lost all games played, but the competitive experience is always good for the kids as is the competion from other hockey communities. A brief scoring summary of the January 23-25 weekend follows: By David Hogg Hockey Players and Fans Loading the Bus for Watson Lake NOVICE Cassiar was defeated 15-2 by Watson Lake with 13 of Watson’s goals attributed to two excellent players. Robby Howard got both Cassiar aoals with assists going to Andrew Hogg and Jeffery Johnston. In their second game Cassiar lost 7-0 to Fort Nelson’s West Coast Transmission. And in their last game Cassiar was defeated 9-0 by Sports North of Whitehorse. Cassiar played all their Novices, age 5-9, while mast teams fielded only 8-9 year olds. NORTHERN B.C. Taking into consideration that the Cassiar population is decreasing you may find some of the hos- pital statistics interesting: 1984 1985 1986 1987 Admissions: 174 _190 190 Admissions-January: 14 11 24°19 The average length of stay per patient is four days. Number of X-rays taken: 944 973 X-rays - January: 85 60 101 Laboratory units have also increased. Audiology (hearing tests): 327 183 These statistics reflect the drop in mine em- ployees. Did you know that the “Pharmacy” processed approximately 5000 prescriptions in 1986 and that almost 1000 people were seen in outpatients (outpatients is not the doctors clinic). On February 27th we had Irene Lueck returning for 3 weeks to replace Ethel Songhurst our Lab/X Ray Technician. Ethel is taking off to a warmer climate for some R & R. Also away, with Ethel, was Pam Swift, our accounts clerk. We’re sure they are both having an enjoyable holiday. Carol Whiteside, R.N., was away all of February and Mary Elhorn will be all of March. Both Mary and Carol are attending an Advanced Cardiac Life Support Workshop in March. This workshop covers a wide range of cardiac (heart) care including rescusi- tition and management of patients with heart attacks. Their interest in attending this highly technical work- shop is to be commended. We will say goodbye to Sue Brown R.N. on March 13th 1987. Sue has been in Cassiar for a year and considering she only agreed to come for 6 months has more than fulfilled her original agreement. Sue - will be returning to Vancouver Island where she will spend some time, probably in the rain, having some R & R before she takes her next appointment. Our sincere thanks for all your help and cooperation in the past year, Sue, and good wishes and happiness in all your future endeavors. At this time we would also like to extend our thanks to Mrs. Dorothy Belleau R.N. who arrived De- cember 31st 1986 to provide relief for the nurses on vacation. Her willingness to come to Cassiar at a mom- ents notice is to be commended and her presence much appreciated, The hospital building will be having the elec- trical wiring brought up to the. more recent electrical codes within the next four weeks. Also, hopefully, the wo outside lights can be rewired so that we do not go through a thousand and one light bulbs! + A ARAMALOOOHAEMARATAROOIOOMHM The first week in February the following skaters received badges: CANSKATE SESSION ELEMENTARY PRE—BEGINNER Renata Kos Dallas Shipley Jenny Marie Storie Morgan Quinn Brenda Joseph Candice Shipley Emiko van der Pol Sean (omy CANFIGURESKATE BEGINNER FREESKATE 7 Renata Kos Heather Cameron Bobbie-Gail Storie Erin McKenna Emiko van der Pol Sean Connolly Sheila Shipley BASIC Farrah Shipley Renata Kos Jamie Harrison The Blue Valley Figure Skating Club will hold their annual wind-up show on Thursday March 26, 1987 at 1:30 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. in the arena. a pop concert is planned and our theme is “Rock Roll on Ice”.
