UNBC'’s first detached build-
ing is ready for student use.
The 7900 square foot, $1.6
million 1.K. Barber Enhanced
Forestry Lab officially opened
on March 2, 2000.

The lab, located across ring
road from the existing lab
building contains four green-
house compartments for
plant growth and yield experi-
ments as well as facilities for
experiments on soil composi-
tion and nutrients.

result of a _ partnership
between industry, UNBC and
the government. The lead
contribution of $500,000 was
provided by Ike Barber, the
Chairman of Slocan Forest
Products, Ltd. “Quite simply,
the information coming out of
this new Laboratory will help
us grow trees faster and bet-
ter” says Mr. Barber. “UNBC
researchers need state-of-
the-art tools to provide the
information that will ultimately
make the industry in BC more
