Anthony Vale, Cassiar,
has joined the Wise Owl Club
He won member-
ship in the club and a Wise
Owl certificate because he
warded off tragedy in an on
the job accident.

tos Corp. Ltd., announced
that Mr. Vale saved his eyes
from injury or blindness
through conscientious use
of safety eye wear.

Mr. Vale, a rock reject
plant operator, was assist-
ing in removing belt from a
conveyor. He was standing on
the floor approximately 10!
below the head pulley. A
piece of rock was dislodaed
from the pulley. It struck
and shattered the right lens
of his safety glasses. "Had
he not been using eye prot-
ection", said the Safety
Supervisor, "he would have
received serious eye injur-
ies,"

mer Wise Owl Club of Amer-
ica from the National Soc-
-fety for the Prevention of
Blindness, New York,

The society inaugurated
the Wise Owl movement in
1947, Membership in the
Wise Ow] Club of Canada is
made up exclusively of ind=
ustrial employees and tech-
nical students who, like
Mr. Vale, have saved one or
both eyes by wearing eye
protection. What this has
meant in terms of production,
purchasing power and fami ly
welfare is incalculable,

Today the Wise Owl Club of
Canada has 4300 members in
1063 firms across Canada.

As a result of two persons
being attacked by doaqs in
Cassiar recently, the RCMP
have been making regular
patrols and will continue to
do so in the future.

So far a great number of
dogs running or being found
in packs have been disoosed
of by the RCMP and this will
continue until dog owners
realize they must look after
their dog properly.

As a result of the action
been taken, people have com-
plained that their doa was
licenced and therefore the
action was improner. Quite
the contrary, buying your
dog a licence does not give
you the right to then turn
it loose so it can attack |
people,

Many dogs are noted in and
around the store and ‘cookery.
Recently dogs have damaqed
groceries by urinatina on
them. This also will cease
with the present action be-
ing taken by the police, es-
pecially when it involves a
pack of doqs.

Disposing of doags is not
a pleasant task and there-
fore, if you are a doq owner
