ready market on the Lower Mainland. There is a large selection of good farm properties within reasonable distance from town, available for purchase from the Government and private owners. Burns Lake has a population of some 250 and is located in an extensive but sparsely settled area of good ranching and farming lands. It is aptly named “The Lakes” district. Lakes, creeks and rivers net this part of Central B.C. and practically every farm is located on, or close to, water. Areas suitable for agriculture are scattered, being interspersed by lake and bush. The country is undulating to hilly and the agricultural lands are partially forested. The altitude at Burns Lake is 2,312 feet. The Government road, which runs south to the Francois and Ootsa Lakes country, begins at this point. This beautiful series of lakes has an aggregate length of 75 miles. Francois Lake, a long and narrow body of water, is the site of deposits of phosphate rock that have been found to be suitable for blast furnace work. Ootsa Lake is one of the sources of the Nechako River. In addition to an extensive selection of general farming properties, those interested in ranching should turn to this territory where small ranches may be secured adjacent to farm lands, and further afield larger ranching areas are available. Purchases may be made in 160 acre or 320 acre units. An extensive agricultural area is comprised in Smithers and district. This territory is the most highly developed, and has the largest farming population on this line of the Cana- dian National Railways. Farm lands are singularly favored by closeness to rail facilities which has stimulated dairying and mixed farming. A fluid milk market is provided in Prince Rupert some 226 miles west and a fully modern Creamery is operated at Telkwa, 11 miles from Smithers. Timothy seed and hay are favored cash crops. Cereals, hardy fruits and vegetables produce consistently well. There is a good selection of raw and improved lands available to the landseeker, all close to town and served by an excellent highway. Prices are reasonable and easy terms are usually arranged. Smithers, the main centre of the territory, has a popula- tion of 1,200. It is a divisional point of the Railway in a Farm lands at Terrace. A beautiful mixed farming location in Centra! British Columbia. SS i a Sa
