Welcome to the new mill Courier. ° Enough room for one and a half people. Too bad for the one half that has to run alongside. Anna Guarducci will not be on the ski slope for the next three months. Anna is progressing well in Vancou- ver and should be back in Casstar shortly for further recuperation. If our summer goes according to past records, we will see you.on the "hill" in July,. Anna! Nancy Wright has left the lab and plans a long canoe trip in northern Saskatchewan after visiting Alaska and the Territories. NEW R I The Mill Department currently employs 18 hourly rated female employees, 8 of the girls were local residents prior to employment and the remaining 10 are from out of town. We. now have two of the girls ‘running forklifts full time, 10 are on the bagging machines and the remaining 6 are employed as general labourers/clean-up crew, MILL PERSONALITIES VICKIE YOUNG came to Cassiar in January 1972 to teach school for the remainder of the year and stayed on for the 1972/73 terms. Currently employed as a forklift operator in the mill, Vickie enjoys her work and is looking forward to loading the fibre trucks. Vickie's only problem is being accused of sitting down on the job when she has to sit on the lower half of the freight elevator to open the door! : A snowmobile and motorbike enthusiast, Vickie finds the surrounding country ideal for her pursuits. BRENDA TRERICE is a recent: arrival from Montreal. In earlier years, Brenda was left on a deserted island (with friends, not alone) when their boat was destroy- ed by a hurricane. Brenda survived to come to Cassiar in January 1974 as a teacher for Frontier College. Currently Jack of all Trades with plans to be master of all, Brenda has just recently gone on shift in the mill. Her only ???? comment on working in Cassiar was that she would like to see more women employed in all areas i.e. THE MINE. When asked about the bunkhouse accommodations, Brenda said that now they have been given some liberty, the bunkhouse is in the process of becoming more comfort- - able. She would like to see more free enterprise in town along with a laundromat and housekeeping suites.
