Between Dawson Creek in British Columbia and Big
Delta, Alaska, are 1423 miles of dust storms, sudden
floods, falling rocks, mud and blinding snow.

They call it the Alaska Highway.

For the road-wise drivers of Lynden Transport, Inc.
(Lynden, Wash.) it’s all in a day’s work. Since
1953 they’ve been challenging the highway to bring
produce, cargo, military equipment and
mail to Juneau and points north.

“Oh, we’ve broken down and ditched in storms
lots of times,”’ says Ray Wieberg, General Manager.
“One time the drivers changed 20 tires on a
single trip. But we get through somehow.”

It just makes us appreciate
our own Transport drivers more than

ever. We are so used to seeing

the Highway from the comfort of a
smoothly running car, generally in
daylight. J guess we don't see the
lonely stretches of night, with 24
Tons of fibre tied on behind.

So I guess it takes an ad in
the magazine to remind us of the
job our own hoys do, and have been
doing for many years. Nice going,
fellows. But say- we run better
tires, don't we?
