The conditions of award make it clear that the Provincial Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal is not to be easily earned. Twenty years’ service, with an unblemished record in the last ten, represents an accomplishment. not gained lightly. The initial issue will comprise 41 medals, to be given to officers and men from Commissioner T. W. S. Par- sons downwards. That number itself in- dicates the hard core of competent and experienced materials that forms the backbone of the present British Columbia Police, which has now been given appro- priate and merited recognition. Eda tase 4 THE NELSON DAILY NEWS December 20th, 1946. MEDALS FOR long service and good conduct have been awarded by Govern- ment Agent S. B. Hamilton at the Pro- vincial Police offices. The ceremony, which inaugurated the presentation of medals to members and ex-members of the Provincial Police, was performed in the presence of B. C. Police, “B” Divi- sion, and the staff of the Nelson Provin- cial Gaol. Those receiving awards were ex-In- spector John Macdonald and Inspector R. Harvey, in command of “B” Division at Nelson. A like award went to Seret. W. J. McKay, in charge of the Cranbrook district. In tribute to the late ex-Inspec- tor C. G. Barber, the attending force stood for one minute’s silence. Ex-Inspector Barber was also awarded a medal which will be forwarded to Mrs. Barber of Kaslo, who was unable to attend.
