BEWARE On Sunday, January 11, 1970 at 5 A.M., tragedy struck our community with a suddeness that put fear into the hearts of everyone living here. The tragedy occurred by fire at the Morris Pete home, with the terrible loss of a mother and six of her children. This fire tragedy happened once and may easily happen again at any- time or anywhere. Guard your loved ones and friends by immediately check- ing your homes for fire hazards. The Cassiar Fire Department can help you inspect your home or house trailer. Arrange for an inspection by trained personnel NOW. Call your Fire Chief at 778-7240 or at Extension 247 and ask for an inspection at your convenience. In the meantime; 1. Keep matches and lighters away from children. 2. Never smoke while lying down. 3. Keep vanecessary material cleaned up. 4. Keep volatile liquids such as gasoline, paint, lacquers and varnishes stored safely away from any source of ignition. Bunkouse occupants must always be aware of the possibility of fire and the rapidity with which it will spread. At the first indication of fire, the following must be done; - Call or waken one or two others to assist in clearing everyone out of the building. - Go to the Cookery and cal! the Fire Department. Tne number is 778-7222 - DO NOT smoke in bed. - DO NOT tamper with fuse toxes. - DO NOT overlcad electric circuits. - Above all DO NOT play with Fire. Stop tragic events - do not gamble - remove the fear of fire by re- moving the hazards - THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW. FIRE EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM - In the event of a fire emergency, the Fire Department mist be called to alert by one of the following systems; 1. PHONE 778-7222 2. Sound the Fire Alarm by pressing a Fire Emergency Button. These are stragically iocated at points throughout the Townsite and Plantsite and are well marked by a RED light. DON'T WAIT: - EVACUATE, - Flee to safety first, then alert the Fire Department by using one of the above Alert System. Do your part in the prevention of further fatalities in Cassiar. When using alert system number 2, remember - the Siren is NOT automa- tic. It must be pressed continually ee get the desired signal. ~ While you are sounding the alarm in this manner, have someone call the Fire Department and give the exact location of the fire. Do not panic while calling in an alanis, Soeet pease and oeeety and give the exact location. FIRE SIGNALS - “PLANTSITE | oy blast reneated. TOWNSITE - 2 biasts repeated. - Locate an alarm button by your place of residence and do not hesitate to use it in case of emergency. - Do not obstruct Fire Exits ur secondary doorways. - Have a pian of escape and be sure your family knows how to use it.
