As such, it is our mandate to report on issues of interest to students in the North- ern Region. We encourage all students, both on the main and regional campuses to submit to Over the Edge. Over the Edge is part of the Canadian Uni- versity Press network of papers, otherwise known as CUP. CUP is an organization that is entirely owned by member papers, and provides such services as a news wire and advertis- ing to Over the Edge. Over the Edge is published every second week during the fall and winter semesters. Before we begin, | would like to first mention that the Editors and Staff at Over the Edge are deeply saddened to see one of their best (and most humorous) writers moveon.Ecaterina Ciugureanu, who has been our _| Feature’s Editor since the start of the school year has resigned from her role in order to put more focus on her course work. Her unique view of the world will be missed. On that note, Over the Edge will soon be welcoming several new Editors to the team. We are currently in the process of hiring a new Features Editor, a Clubs Editor, and a Photo Editor. This new positions will be a welcome change to Over the Edge as fresh faces bring with them new ideas, opinions, and a creativity to the pages you see before you now. As a team, Over the Edge would also like to ad that just because you do not hold a position on the editorial board does not mean you cannot get involved! Over the Edge is always looking for staff writers and contributors. This means that you could submit an occasional article or have a bi-weekly column - it’s all up to you! As always we would love to hear what you have to say whether it be criticism or praise, we're all ears. If you have something to say, or you would like to speak with one of our editors in person please email over-the-edge@unbc.ca. Or, feel free to drop by our office — just keep in mind that we are students too and have busy schedules, so if the office is empty just email us and we will do our best to set up a meeting at your earliest convenience. Now, let's move on to a more serious note. In our last issue, we ran an article with some rather insensitive comments that somehow managed to fall through the cracks without being noticed. While some may argue that the comment was made in good humour, it is not the kind of joke that Over the Edge wishes to endorse. From this point on, however, the Editor’s and staff will endeavour to ensure that a matter such as this does not happen again. It must also be noted, that for reasons extraneous to this incident, the Editor responsible for these controversial comments no longer writes for this newspaper. Further, the staff and Editors of Over the Edge would like to comment those students who wrote into us and expressed their concerns related to the article in question. It is vigilance such as this which makes a university campus the best place for one to learn and grow from such mistakes. Moreover, we would like to encourage all students to continue to critique OTE and analyze every word that makes it to press. We believe that criticism is not a pejorative term, but a tool which will only help us to improve the quality of news and features which we have been entrusted to provide for the students of UNBC and the broader Prince George community. So please, if you see something printed in the pages of Over the Edge that is insensitive or uncouth — let us know. After all, journalists like everyone else are prone to mistakes and the only way to learn from them is to first acknowledge that they have been made.
