Summer Provin- cial Championships in Burnaby. They were one of three in their age groups representing the Caribou region, War- wick placed 5th in the consolation finals in breast stroke. The Clippers have had a very successful season and competed in meets throughout the summer. At the wind- up meet, trophies were presented to our local swimmers. BEGINNERS BADMINTON CLASS There will be an introductory course of 8 lessons for anyone interested in pursuing this lifetime sport. The class will be on every Tuesday evening from 6:10 to 7:30 p.m. This course will teach you the fundamentals of the game, rules, etiquette, basic skills and a lot of fun games. The course will-start October 2 at the rec centre gym. Registration must be completed at the Rec Centre office before the course starts. The course fee will be $15.00. Minimum registration is 8 people. Participants are advised to have their own racquet, but there is a limited amount of racquets for rent at the rec attend- ant’s office. BALLROOM DANCING INSTRUCTION Ballroom Dancing classes will be starting October 1. They will consist of 8 two hour sessions. Social dances such as foxtrot, waltz, cha cha, jive, will be taught to the class. A minimum registration of 10 people is re- quired for this class to go ahead. Registration fee is $15.00 and is payable to the recreation office. You do not need to have a partner to register. ARENA OPENING On October 1 the Cassiar arena will once again open for another season. Schedules of the arena are available at the rec centre and the arena office. For all enquiries on the arena, please call 778-7529 during regular opening hours. TRIATHLON A triathlon was held on September 8, 1984. Ten participants entered and completed the race. (On a per capita basis, we probably have one of the highest number of Triathlon athletes.) The race started at the pool at — 1:30 p.m. with the first group of swimmers and the second group of swimmers started at 2:00 p.m.. We are extremely pleased with the different back- grounds of the athletes. The Cassiar Cafe- teria boasted three participants and Erickson had two entires. Congratulations must go to everyone who completed the race. We are very pleased with the response and will plan for another one next June with teams as well as individuals. Rudi Froelich from the Cafeteria came up with the best time. He finished the one mile swim, ten mile bike ride and five mile run in a time of one hour 52 minutes and nine seconds. GRANT After the filling out of applications for many grants over the past couple of years, the Cassiar Community Club has finally received a grant of six hundred and forty dollars, which will enable the Club to have a leadership seminar in late fall or early winter. This grant will be used for the membership in leadership training, and resource people will be used from the community in order to have these sessions.
