- 10 - 111. CASSIAR EMISSIONS & SOURCES There are two basic types of emissions to atmosphere, namely point sources and fugitive. Unfortunately, there is no currently available accurate quantitative data for Cassiar mainly because the analytical costs and labour/equipment prerequisites have to date been rejected as unnecessary to the operation. It is, however, anticipated that a complete testing program will be required by the B.C. Pollution Con- trol authorities within the next one to two years, parti- cularly in view of the fact that asbestos has been classified as a hazardous pollutant. Although no absolute data is available, emission estimates have been made based on known equipment performance and coltection efficiency, as well as emission factor infor- mation specific to the industry and as cited in available literature. The majority of emission estimates are also supported both directly and by inference from 1974 ambient air measurements. A brief outline of the emission source is provided below, and estimates summarized in Tables 4 and 5. ke MINESITE Main emission sources are: i) Drilling (inertial collection or water injection) ii) Blasting (no dust control) iii) Ore removal (trucks to Primary Crusher) iv) Waste removal (trucks to open dumps) v) Primary crushing/drying/concentration (minimal dust control) vi) Concentrator Reject Tailings (conveyor to open dump) vii) Transportation of concentrate ore to millsite (via open top trucks and traml ine)
