The laughter of smiling babies are the first sign of their awareness of environment. Smiling children arrive home excited about their day. But what makes the young adult or man and woman: money, games, relationships An example would be the case of a successful business man that I know. He had a lovely family, many friends, a beautiful home in the best part of Vancouver, but suddenly at the age of forty he sold his business, left his family and decided to sail around the world in his yacht looking for something missing. He never found it and he’s still search- ing at the age of 53. The chances are good that he will: never know what that thing is because he refuses to spend" a little time with God. I feel sorry for those who can only find a high on drugs, booze, money or sex. They are the searchers who keep losing. I have a big high when I see my God in the - things around me and in me. How about you? Are you a_ searcher? Stop! Find God and then shout, HURRAH! . Norma Beacham for The Reverend F. G. Listen to youngsters, listen to grown-ups and listen to radios and televisions. What do you hear? The news-of hatred, people fighting and killing, One beautiful summer morning we were awakened by a terrible noise. ‘| hate you, | hate you,” screamed the young wife from the neighbor’s house. The husband thundered words of hatred in reply. These young people were happily married just a year ago. Now they are separated. Hatred has taken the place of love. ; This is not something new or unusual. The rate of separation and divorce is increasing every day. A million- aire in Vancouver had constant arguments with his pretty wife and he made secret arrangements to kill her. The result of his hatred was that he not only lost his wife but everything and ended up in jail, He threw away all his happiness for the sake of hatred. Husbands and wives hate each other, parents and children hate each other, brothers and sisters hate each other, | can never forget a story | read a few months ago. An infant child was roasted in a big frying pan for disturb- . ing his parents by crying during their sleep. | was grieved by reading that story and wondered how. could they do such a thing! How could they hate their own flesh and blood. How do children treat their parents? One sad mother wrote to Ann Landers that her fourteen year old son hated her and ill treated her constantly, and she had no peace of mind, Young people leave their homes because they can not get along with their parents. Some of them hate their par- ents to such an extent that they never want to return, They go through hardship and difficulties rather than go back to their parents, Yes, they are willing to give up their parents’ . love and affection, delicious, homemade food, their warm » and cozy bed and all the other comforts of life rather than " get rid of that bitter feeling of hatred, A few years ago one young man used one bullet to get rid of his father who interfered with his favorite rock and roll music. Another beloved son planted a bomb in his father’s suitcase when he was taking a trip:in a plane and many lives were ‘lost --- just because one son hated his father. Every day we read or hear about examples of racial hatred. A tanzanian immigrant, Shamshudin. Kanji, was crippled by two white guys who shoved him off a sub-way platform. Another family is returning to their country of origin due to the rude treatment they received from their neighbors. Their children were beaten up by the neighbor's. boys. When it was reported the angry father charged to their neighbor’s house and broke their windows and abused them, and thus expressed his malignant hatred, Another black family bought a new house and the staring glances of hatred they: received from their neighbors were unbearable. However, they didn’t have to face that too long for the white family sold their house and left the neighborhood. A constable and his family were made homeless by some hooligans who set his house on fire, only because he was of foreign origin. Religious hatred is another widespread disease of pre- © sent century. Take for example, Ireland, the Middle East, and African countries, The paradoxical truth is that people become so religious in order to acquire salvation that they hate other religions. Most religions teach love. In the Bible it says to love thy neighbors as thyself and to love thy enemies. But in actual practice people hate different reli- gious groups with all their hearts. They mercilessly kill each other for religion’s sake. What a sick world! Political hatred. makes headlines in news. It looks as if the maim objective of certain leaders is to find fault with other leaders and accuse them publically. Heads of state have been arrested or assasinated by their enemies. When we look at all these happenings we can see that hatred is the root cause. The representatives said that tie club had wanted to foilow these proposals but that the member- ship was against it. As the club represents only 20% of: snownobile operators, they feel it is not their responsivility to solve the problem. They did feel that one solution would be for the -R.C.i.P?2 to fine or take away permits for vicliations of the proposals. I’d say the Organizers deserve a lot of credit for all the planning they put into it. As for my favourite event -- that’s a hard choice, but the Jackass Jump was a load of laughs. Anyone who was there had a great time. JAKALINE CLEMENTS | liked the outhouse race the best, and the log and pillow fight, and the toboggan races, too. | was in the toboggan races and came second. TODD WHITESIDE Ah, it’s excellent! | really got off on the demolition job on that old Coe Matter of fact, | had first swing at it, = SHERRIE SCOTT Sure was well organized and enthusiastically attended for a small town like this. The dog races were what captured my interest the most. THIS MONTHS QUESTION WOULD YOU CARE TO MAKE SOME COMMENTS ON THIS YEAR’S WINTER CARNIVAL, AND PERHAPS GIVE US SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE EVENTS? There seems to be good ' participation at the various events, and that’s what makes it all a success. ERNA DAUM | think it’s been beautiful - | really enjoyed it all. It also helps them get rid of their frustrations from so many months of cold weather. Besides - all that, the profits from the whole deal are going to good causes. 0 Oo a rr ee rt eT a a ee ES {
