AMONG THE many visitors to Head- quarters this summer were the. “Quiz Kids,” the quartette of juvenile screen and radio stars who, with Joe Kelly as Master of Ceremonies delight a coast-to-coast audience of ten million people every Sun- day night through 132 Blue Network stations. Invited to the Capital city to lend their efforts on behalf of the Kinsmen Milk Fund, the youngsters—accompanied by their parents—had a great time making first hand acquaintance with many of their Canadian admirers. Prior to their open air performance in Victoria’s jam- packed MacDonald Park, the kids lunched at Government House as guests of His Honour the Lieutenant-Governor and Mrs. Woodward. Most experienced performer on Quiz Kid programmes is 15-year-old Richard Williams, who is in the 10th grade at Roose- velt High School, East Chicago, Indiana. Richard has been four years on the pro- gramme, and he specializes in mathematics, geography and current events. Richard learned to read when he was 2, played rummy (and kept the score) at four. He is a spelling expert (he defeated the U.S. champion when the latter appeared as a guest on the Quiz Kids programme), and musically he has perfect pitch. He can distinguish any note played on the pianc. Measured by standards other than the Quiz Kids programme, Richard stands forth with incandescent brightness. Uni- versity of Chicago psychologists found his DS I.Q. to be higher than that of any other child examined. In a test for U.S. Army Aviation cadets he scored 108 (80 is pass- ing), and in the Eddy test for navy radio technicians he scored 75 (60 is passing), and in a music aptitude test Indiana State Teachers’ Collége gave him the highest grade ever recorded. Ruth Duskin, only girl on the pro- gramme, is 11 years old, four feet five inches tall and weighs seventy pounds. She is in the 6th Grade at Parkside School, Chicago, and is one of the two out of 108 children who this year qualified for a schol- arship at University of Chicago High School which she will soon enter.
