Rupr to wR eflectcous Well, after an active week of Carnival activities I truly believe that most persons that participated in the Winter Carnival enjoyed themselves, met a lot of new people, and hopefully got out of that winter slump that - so often hits in February and early March! Attendance at most events was very rewarding especially to the people that helped to organize the activities. “* Phe strong support given to this.wzwear's Winter Carnival is.indicative’of a solid base of high communitg spirit in our little town. If the opportunity exists the community will rally behind the cause. In future you can be assured that many more opportunities will exist and as the Community Club and the Company continue to up- grade the services in. our town we will be able to meet the needs more and more. From my stand point there is an earnest effort on both Company and Community Club's part to make Cassiar a good town to live in. I think it is fair to say that most people had a good time during the Winter Carnival. At this time I wish to express my appreciation to the many people that helped in the various events. It was the efforts of these people that made it possible for all of us to have such a good time. Now, we are on the frontier of spring and the fever is definitely starting to bubble in many of us. In the recreation business this is the time of pre- paration for our summer activities. I will be approach- ing various people to help with the preparation of an active sports season outdoors this year. I believe that one of the major factors in maintain- ing interest and strength in the various sports that we having going is to ensure that we have other teams come in to Cassiar and play on a regular basis as well as our teams going out-of town to play. Hopefully through our Region Recreation Council we can improve our organization of all sports. Our film program.for the young children is on the upswing and I am happy to inform you that every Saturday 1:30 p.m. at the Cassiar School we will have Walt Disney movies and cartoons as well as good Nation Film Board movies for children. There will be a charge of 25¢ to cover the cost of the Walt Disney Movies. Also I am attempting to get good movies in for our regular movies. If you have any requests please inform me! It is hoped ‘that a comprehensive program of swimming lessons., Syncronized swimming, and competitive swimming, can be organized. BUT we do need experienced staff to embark on this program - SO - swimming enthusiasts please come for- ward and be a part of the action this sumer. Wilderness Hiking and Camping This summer I would like to develop a program that preteens, teenagers, and adults can participate in. As you know, when the nice weather comes everyone wants to get out and enjoy mother natures paradise. So - from a recreational perspective it is important to move with the peoples needs. I think this organized recreational activity would be of interest to many people. If there are any people in the community that would like to become a part of this program and contribute some of their experience in hiking, compass work, outdoor cooking, woodcraft work, mountain climbing, canoeing, bridge making etc., please come forward, contact me and we will organize our forces for the summer.
