The players and coaches have been busy at prac- tices improving the players’ skating and hockey skills in anticipation of a mini-tourney with Watson Lake. Each of the divisions have had sessions of power skating instruction with Jody Millar, and to date the comments have been posi- tive. The parents feel that it is benefiting the players to receive this kind of instruction. Parents and players have been busy fundraising. The $1000 Jackpot Bingo was neither a failure nor a roar- ing success though we did raise $135.55. The jackpot was won by Margaret Whalen. The Toy Bingo also raised some money for us. The Sega Master game was won by Debbie Hardy. Orders were taken for mugs and magna-caddies at these events and will arrive for delivery in late November or early December. The 500 tickets printed for the Pick-a- Prize Raffle were all sold and the winners were drawn at the Toy Bingo. We sincerely appreciate their support in raising funds to help our players to travel Guiness, Jayson Quinn, Jayson Quinn, Shana Day, Shawn Whalen, Patrick Waldera, Sue Hyde, Drew Clarke, Chris Landucci, Tricia Liddle, and Keith Reid. At the November general meeting it was decided that those players registering late will have to pay the $6.00 Priority postage to get their registration to Victoria quickly so that they may begin practices within 5 days of registra- tion. If they choose not to pay the postage then they must wait 10 days after registering before attending practices. Also it was decided that we would reinstate the goalie tro- phies that were not given out last year. The executive has had some changes, with Al John- ston moving to vice-president from bottle coordinator, and Sheila Landucci taking the secretarial position. A new bot- tle coordinator is presently needed. The next meeting will be held in early January as we will have to begin work for our tournament to be held on February 10, 11 and 12. For this tournament we will be looking for billets for visiting hockey players in the Novice and Atom divisions, and possibly for the PeeWee division. Our sincerest thank you to the residents of Cassiar for their support with our fundraising during the past two months. A thank you also to the businesses and artists — from Cassiar and area for their donations to the Bingo and Raffle. CANFIGURESK ATE Canfigureskate is again a learn-to-figure skate pro- gram. It will help recreational skaters fine-tune their skat- ing skills. Participants need not be experts when they join a Canfigureskate program, but should have the basic skat- ing skills of the Canskate program. When you join this program you'll learn five im- portant areas of figure skating while working toward the 21 different badges. Your group lessons will include in- instruction in: 1. Figures’ -from edges to the forward serpentine 2. Free Skating -basic field movements jumps -spins ~footwork A short 1% minute program is performed for the final badge. 3. Dance -from edges and basic dance steps to the Dutch waltz 4. Stroking -basic stroking patterns -stroking with turns and footwork 5. Precision -basic formations and steps, progressing to a short number to music There is no formal testing for any of the 21 badges. Your coach will evaluate you daily and award a badge as you learn the required elements. You progress at your own speed. Most skaters can complete the program in three years. Everyone should ensure that his or her holiday is free from fire. Fire safety precautions should head the list of every sen- sible family’s precautions for Christmas. There is no place like home for the holidays — there is also no place like home for Christmas fire hazards. Fire can be a dangerous enemy and this is a dangerous time ’ of year. Christmas trees and decorations are extra fire hazards so be extra careful. ‘Stand your tree in water. Cut an inch or so off the base so it will absorb more. Check the water level daily. A dry tree is a double hazard. Tie it securely and keep it away from heat. Check sets of electric lights for worn insulation, broken plugs loose bulb sockets. Throw away old sets with dried out wir- ing. Remember — fire can start very fast. Turn off all indoor tree and decorative lights before leaving the house or retiring for the night. Do not leave tree lights on for long periods of time. So be extra careful this Christmas season. Make certain it turns out to be a truly happy one for your family and friends. Fire can spoil it so quickly. Dress - Semi-Formal Corsages for the young ladies Munchies Party favours Tickets en Ar $5.00 per p ates Se oxy Sune % VW ge esi -
