Fast longer

Roses or chrysanthemums especially re-
spond to a few special tricks that make
the most of their vase life. Cut rose
stems, but leave thorns on unless you're
expert at removing them without dam-
aging the stem. Mums absorb water best
if you scrape stems first. with a paring

knife and break off rather than cut them .

to the length you want. Next, place roses
or mums in any deep pail filled with hos
water (don’t cover blooms), soak them
one to two hours. Then put regular tap
water in your vases, add Floralife condi-
tioner (available at florists or check in
dime stores). Arrange flowers so there is
breathing room, no leaves below water
line. In three to four days, if any wilt,
make a fresh cut or break 2" to 3” from
the bottom, put them into hot water
again for a good soak till the blooms
perk up. Other tips: tulips need plenty
of water,a tablespoon of sugar per quart
of water helps, so does tossing in about

W you nip off the top bud right away.
Stock absorbs water more efficiently if
you pound the stem ends flat. When you
buy other flowers, always’ ask your
florist what methods to use,

A HUSBAND!
